Foxconn Chairman Liu Young-way told the company's annual shareholders meeting the firm remained cautious about this year due to monetary policy tightening, geopolitical tensions and uncertainty over inflation, but servers were a bright spot due to surging interest in AI. "More and more people are using ChatGPT," he said. "You can see the market for AI servers will rise much faster than expected. We expect that in the second half of this year there may be a three digit increase." The Taiwanese company has a 40% global market share for servers and aims to further increase that, Liu added. In the first quarter, Foxconn's cloud and network products segment, which includes servers, accounted for 22% of revenue, second only to smart consumer electronics - which includes smartphones - at 56%. Foxconn this month posted a 56% plunge in first-quarter net profit, lagging forecasts in its biggest quarterly fall in three years, and said visibility for the full year was "limited". More than 77,000 computers in Vietnam have suffered data encryption since December 2022, according to Bkav – a leading Vietnamese technology corporation that specialises in cyber security and software. The corporation’s Technical Support Centre has also received hundreds of calls, asking for assistance in handling data encryption malware. Recently, its virus monitoring system detected a data-encrypting malicious code called “STOP/DJVU” or “FARGO3” that targets businesses and units using accounting data management software to steal data. According to statistics, more than 260 servers have been compromised from more than 6,000 different Internet Protocols (IPs). Notably, out of hundreds of cases contacting Bkav for help, more than 50% do not use anti-virus software, or install computer protection applications or software that are not strong enough. Taxi commissions raise Phu Quoc restaurant prices
Nguyen Cam Loan in Ho Chi Minh City was frustrated after her recent trip to Phu Quoc for the Reunification Day and May Day (April 30-May 1) holidays. When using a taxi to take her family to a local restaurant, she was enthusiastically introduced by the driver to a rice pot restaurant. However, a meal for four people with regular dishes, including rice, boiled vegetables, braised fish and braised meat, cost nearly VND1.3 million ($55.39). She then complained to the taxi driver who took her family to the restaurant to no avail. Incensed, Loan said drivers should only recommend eateries based on quality, otherwise both drivers and restaurants "will lose customers in the future." Once a popular tourist hotspot for its famed pearls and scenery, Phu Quoc has been shunned by travelers recently. In addition to high airfares, exorbitant service prices have made the island lose much of its charm in the eyes of many tourists. Phu Quoc officials have said that food services in Phu Quoc … [Read more...] about Taxi commissions raise Phu Quoc restaurant prices

Since last October, Pham Manh Hung has been struggling to feed his five-member family. Hung has been forced into a reduction of working hours, while his wife last worked for an apparel company in Hanoi almost a year ago. For most of 2022, all 1,500 workers at Hung’s company in Hanoi’s Quang Minh Industrial Park (IP), producing furniture products exported to Europe and Japan, operated at full speed with many export orders coming from foreign partners. Prolonged economic difficulties will inevitably mean that some people will be squeezed out of work, photo Le Toan “However, over the past seven months, the company has landed only several orders. So its leadership has been seeking more markets for its products in order to create employment and retain workers,” Hung said. “They don’t want to let go of workers and instead reduce the working hours by two hours a day.” Meanwhile, his wife, Nguyen Thi Mo, had been working for a Japanese firm in the capital’s Thang Long IP … [Read more...] about Nation braced for dim job prospects

A range of projects across sectors have been given the go-ahead to crack on with development, photo Le Toan Nguyen Duc The, a private investor involved in real estate for many years, said that at present the market was in a strong phase, with choices for both buyers and sellers. Besides those who have had to leave the industry, there are also many who stayed due to good management of resources. “Many investors have turned away from high-risk products such as land plots or agricultural land in suburban areas to safer products such as town houses and apartments. They evaluate products not only in terms of cash flow, but also expect the ability to increase prices of each type. Products that serve real needs are in the sights of investors,” The said. Despite the difficult market, many investors with a solid financial background have not hesitated to launch new products with flexible payment policies such as splitting payments terms, interest support and big discounts to woo … [Read more...] about Prospects pick up within real estate market
