The exhibits were selected from more than 3,000 drawings sketched during the wartime, which were presented to the Dak Lak Province Museum by the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum, according to the organising board, The exhibition gives the public an insight into the life of people and soldiers at that time, thus helping inspire the national patriotism. Water shortage threatens 138,000 families in central Vietnam this summer
Some rivers have experienced decreases of over 70 percent, including the Ma River in Thanh Hoa Province, the Ca River in Nghe An Province and the Ba River in Phu Yen Province, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said. Dams in the region are only 25-60 percent full, with some even running dry, it said, as cited in a Vietnam News Agency report. Temperatures in Thanh Hoa Province have been around 36-38 degrees Celsius (96.8-100.4 degrees Fahrenheit) since June while Phu Yen's heat reached 39 degrees on many days this month. The hot weather and low moisture levels in the region have increased the rate of evaporation to 5-7mm/day, which is 20-30 percent higher than normal, the ministry said. Some 114,000 households in the central region are experiencing water shortage right now, but the figure may rise to 138,800 if the hot weather continues until the end of the dry season in July in the north-central region and August in the south-central region, the ministry said. Wartime munition bunker found in Central Highlands province
The Bao Loc Pass, three hours from the popular resort town Da Lat, was a strategic military point during the Vietnam War. The bunker was discovered when a construction team used an excavator to move a utility pole near the end of the pass, local military officers said. The excavator hit the bunker underground and the construction team informed authorities. At least 31 60mm mortar munitions were retrieved by military authorities from the site. The entire content of the bunker in terms of types of ammunition and quantity are yet unknown. The site has been quarantined pending plans to dispose of the munitions. Central Vietnam scrambles to strengthen embankments as storm Nakri nears
The storm is expected to make landfall Sunday night. "We heard that storm Nakri was stronger than Matmo, so we are repairing the sea dyke in a hurry," said 65-year-old Nguyen Van Khan, a resident of Nhon Hai Commune, Quy Nhon Town, Binh Dinh Province. Locals have been using sand bags and rocks to fortify the commune’s coastal embankment since Friday afternoon, he said. Another local, Nguyen Van Cho, whose house was damaged by storm Matmo last month, said he and his wife would evacuate to their son’s house further inland. It then moved west at 10-15 kph, and is expected to reach the Central Highlands on Monday morning bringing heavy rains to the area from Thua Thien-Hue to Binh Thuan provinces and the Central Highlands, it added.
