HSBC Vietnam launches bancassurance products By Binh Nguyen - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC - HSBC Bank (Vietnam) Ltd. has introduced to the market two new insurance products as part of its partnership with strategic partner Bao Viet to provide policyholders with a range of flexible plans to protect their life and properties. Sumit Dutta, chief executive officer of HSBC Bank (Vietnam) Ltd., said in a statement obtained by the Daily on Wednesday that HSBC Vietnam was teaming up with its partners Baoviet Insurance and Baoviet Life to launch the two new insurance products after three years of close cooperation. Vietnam's first-ever bill on domestic violence will be put forward at the year-end session of the National Assembly (NA) to help families in difficulty and provide aid for victims. The NA Commission on Social Affairs has finished drafting the bill and on Wednesday started to collect opinions from state agencies on its content. There's something about the iPhone that wins it a lot of admirers, though reasons differ. Mr. Van Thoai was keen to give his girlfriend an iPhone 6 for her birthday, so after squirreling money away from his low monthly income of $200 he then flew to Singapore to get one of the very first iPhone 6’s released there, at $950. Unfortunately, with only rudimentary English skills, he was cheated by the shop owner into also signing an insurance contract that required he pay $1,500 in total. After putting down a deposit he realized he could no longer afford the phone, returning home empty-handed and $400 worse off. The case created an uproar in international media and Mr. Thoai was luckily reimbursed by a fund raising effort of a Singaporean national. His story is just one of many that illustrate how the desire among many Vietnamese to buy an Apple mobile phone sees them lose all common sense. VN, Idaho firms plan to work together Viet Nam is expected to become one of Idaho's top 10 trading partners in the next decade, according to Laura M. Johnson, head of Idaho's Department of Agriculture's market development division. "Our state's diverse agricultural products combined with our success in other Asian markets and Viet Nam's economic success" would pave the way for more trade between the country and Idaho, a state located in the US northwest, Johnson said. Johnson and members of a trade mission, led by the state's governor, C.L. "Butch" Otter, visited HCM City yesterday. The mission included representatives from10 businesses specialising in agriculture, personal care products, semi-conductor and forestry products.
