The conference, themed “Promoting the role of world cultural and natural heritage in sustainable development in Vietnam,” was jointly held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO and the Hanoi People’s Committee . It formed part of activities marking 35 years since Vietnam ratified the 1972 Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Vietnam at right time to bolster offshore wind power growth: experts
Vietnam was deemed to be at the right time to start facilitating offshore wind energy generation in order to fulfill its sustainability goals in power development, said experts in the field at a seminar held last week in Hanoi. The seminar, entitled “Promoting Vietnam’s offshore wind power development: International practices and policy recommendations”, was co-held by the Vietnamese Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission and the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam. Offshore wind power seen double opportunity for Vietnam Around 8 percent of Vietnam’s territory is greatly potential for wind power development, said Nguyen Duc Hien, deputy head of the Central Party Committee’s Economic Commission. The country in its draft 8th power master plan is set to generate roughly 16GW of onshore and nearshore wind energy plus around 7GW of offshore wind power by 2030. 3 Malaysians prosecuted for tricking 30 Indonesians into fraud scams in Vietnam
Police in Ho Chi Minh City, southern Vietnam, have arrested and pressed criminal charges on three Malaysian men who allegedly lured 30 Indonesians to Vietnam through false promises of good jobs but actually forced them to join fraudulent acts for asset misappropriation. The three Malaysian nationals include Leaw Boon Kiat, 36, Thong Joon Kin, 32, and Gan Ban Lee, 42, who have all been prosecuted on charges of “organizing for others to stay in Vietnam illegally,” the city’s police announced at a press conference on Friday. The arrest warrants and prosecution decisions against these suspects have been approved by the municipal People’s Procuracy. Earlier on March 12, the city’s police received a notice from the Department of Foreign Affairs about 30 Indonesian citizens who came to the Indonesian Consulate General in the city for urgent help after they managed to escape from a building where they had been kept under surveillance by a group of Malaysians. The seminar discussed information and skills in the science and technology field, such as scientific research in the industry from A to Z, applications of data science in many fields, to name but a few. Especially, the event also focused on supporting and empowering women to work in the science and technology field. Viettel currently has more than 14,000 female officers and employees, accounting for 29% of the group’s number of total personnel working in Vietnam, 2.5 times higher than the average number in the field of information technology, electronics and telecommunications globally. It also has two female WiDS Hanoi ambassadors, Ms. Nguyen Tran Ngoc Linh, Director of Big Data Analysis Center, Viettel Telecom Corporation, and Ms. Ung Kim Phuong, Manager of Data Analytics Project at Viettel Business Solutions. Singapore promotes instant payment system connectivity in Southeast Asia

To enhance cross-border payments, the BIS Innovation Hub Singapore Centre developed the Nexus concept of a first-of-its-kind multilateral network connecting multiple domestic instant payment systems (IPS). Nexus prototype successfully connected the test IPS of the Eurosystem, Malaysia and Singapore, allowing payments to be sent across the three using only mobile phone numbers. In the next phase, BIS and the central banks of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand will jointly work towards connecting their domestic IPS through Nexus.
