Secretary of the Thai Binh Party Committee Pham Van Sinh addresses the ceremony (Photo: VNA) Thai Binh (VNA) – A ceremony was held in the northern province of Thai Binh on February 2 to mark the 110th birthday of Nguyen Duc Canh, one of the founders and first leaders of the Communist Party of Vietnam who sacrificed his life for the revolution of the Party and people. The ceremony was attended by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong, Chairman of the CPV Central Committee’s Inspection Commission Tran Quoc Vuong, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai, representatives from some central agencies and localities as well as the family of the late leader, among others. Sentences upheld for five members of anti-State organisation
The High-Level People’s Court in Ho Chi Minh City on March 18 upheld imprisonment penalties given to five defendants for “attempting to overthrow the people’s administration”. The defendants at the court on March 18 (Photo: VNA) The defendants include Luu Van Vinh (born in 1967, residing in Binh Tan district of HCM City), Nguyen Quoc Hoan (born in 1977, residing in district 10 of HCM City), Nguyen Van Duc Do (born in 1975, residing in Tan Phu district of HCM City), Phan Trung (born in 1976, residing in Duc Trong district of Lam Dong province), and Tu Cong Nghia (born in 1993, residing in Ninh Thuan province). According to the verdict of the first-instance trial on October 5, 2018, they established a reactionary organisation named “Lien minh dan toc Viet Nam” (Vietnam National Self-Determination Coalition) with Vinh as its President. Is Education Ministry allowing HCM City to compile textbooks?
The fact that leaders and officers of the HCM City Education and Training Department receive remuneration for compiling textbooks has caused a stir among the public. In a document from the Ministry of Education and Trianing (MOET) to the local press, the ministry affirmed that in order to ensure fairness, publicity and transparency in choosing textbooks, the ministry has drafted a circular (which has been published on its website for public opinions) which stipulates that those who compile and inspect textbooks will not be allowed to become members of councils which have the right to choose textbooks for use. The fact that the Vietnam Education Publishing House and the HCM City Education and Training Department are joining hands to compile textbooks is the responsibility of involved parties and they need to explain this to MOET. Tiny Oanh stands tall for Vietnam at SEA Games
Nguyen Thi Oanh crossed the finish line and lay down on the ground, exhausted. Tiny Oanh stands tall for Viet Nam at SEA Games Minutes later, she took the national flag from her coach to celebrate her 3,000m steeplechase victory and burst into tears. Oanh didn't realise she had just become Việt Nam's top track-and-field athlete at the 30th Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines. Oanh secured a hat-trick of individual titles in the women’s 1,500m, 5,000m and 3,000m steeplechase, with a Games’ record in the last event. “I's so exciting to enjoy the feeling of winning. There is nothing that makes me happier than seeing the national flag flying at the victory ceremony,” said Oanh.
