Research program on sustainable development in southwest region
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh has allowed the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) and the Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City to implement a research program on scientific and technology tasks necessary for sustainable development in the southwest region between 2015 and 2019. The Mekong Delta has yet to develop sustainably due to slow economic re-structuring and limited cooperative ties between the region and other provinces across the country, necessitating the plan, said Deputy PM Ninh, who is also Head of the Steering Committee for the southwest region, while chairing a workshop in Kien Giang province on March 27 th . He pointed out that the rate of impoverished households in the region remains high, especially in remote and ethnic minority inhabited areas. Exporters are allowed to self-certify the origin of export and import shipments with a value of less than EUR6,000 On June 11, 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Circular 02/2021/TT-BCT guiding the implementation of UKVFTA rules of origin. The circular took effect on July 26, 2021. Accordingly, for export value exceeding EUR6,000, exporters must obtain a certificate of origin authorized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Exporters are allowed to self-certify the origin of export and import shipments valued at less than EUR6,000 between the UK and Vietnam. For imports worth more than EUR6,000 into Vietnam, exporters registered in an electronic database authorized by the UK customs authorities are allowed to self-certify. Proof of origin must be submitted to Vietnamese customs within two years of imports. Customs authorities may require a translation if not in English. NEW DELHI -- India's government on Wednesday withdrew a data protection and privacy bill which was first proposed in 2019 and had alarmed big technology companies such as Facebook and Google, announcing it was working on a new comprehensive law. The 2019 law had proposed stringent regulations on cross-border data flows and proposed giving the Indian government powers to seek user data from companies, seen as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stricter regulation of tech giants. A government notice said the decision came as a parliamentary panel's review of the 2019 bill suggested many amendments, leading to the need for a new "comprehensive legal framework". Vietnam court sentences 7 to death for narcotic transportation
The People’s Court in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap on Wednesday sentenced seven people to death for illegally transporting over 45 kilograms of narcotics in 2020. The death penalty was handed down to Le Duy Linh, Tran Van Thuc, Nguyen Minh Thiet, Huynh Van Ly, Le Van Thanh, Nguyen Van Thai, and Nguyen Trung Hieu. All were convicted of the illegal transportation of narcotics, though Linh was also found guilty of trading, possession of narcotics, and organization of illegal drug use. An eighth and ninth individual also present at the trial received a life sentence and 20-year sentence, respectively, for drug-related offenses.
