The HCMC Delegation of the 14th and 15th National Assembly (NA) deputies visit and offer gifts to troops stationed on Con Dao Islands. The event marked the 47th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and National Reunification Day (April 30) and the 132nd birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19). Delegates and owners of trawlers learnt about regulations and legal procedures for fishing areas according to laws of Vietnam and ASEAN member states. The work was expected to raise public awareness of fishing regulations, stressing the aim of ending violations in foreign waters. Reportedly, local owners of trawlers signed a document to commit to not fishing in foreign waters as well as to join hands with functional forces to conduct legal fishing in Vietnam’s waters and strictly safeguard the national sovereignty over sea and islands. Accordingly, the command and relevant organizations held meaningful activities to help islanders and fishermen in the district. The U.S. diplomat highly appeciated the good cooperation between the two countries, saying that the areas of cooperation between Vietnam and the U.S. have been broadened. Coming back to Vietnam after 15 years, the U.S. ambassador has seen remarable results in bilateral cooperation, trade and investment, cooperation in health, climate change, exchange of ideas of science and technology, in defense security. The contest drew the participation of 68 high school students in the areas. The program aimed to raise public awareness of information about national sea and islands, as well as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982, the Law of the Sea of Vietnam 2012, and the Law on the Vietnam Coast Guard 2018, among others. The delegation visits Vietnam's sovereignty stele on the Truong Sa archipelago.
