Attending the signing ceremony on April 2 was VFF general secretary Lê Hoài Anh, head coach of the national senior football team Park Hang-seo and general director of Acecook Kajiwara Junichi. Under the deal, Acecook will sponsor the national senior men’s football team, U23 team and national women’s team. After having had a kidney transplant operation in Austria in early March, Alfred Riedl, Coach of the national Vietnamese football team, will likely be back on the job by early August, according to the Viet Nam Football Federation (VFF). The Austrian coach has spent 50 of the 70 days the VFF allocated to him for the operation. Dr. Nguyen Trong Hien, who accompanied Mr. Riedl to Austria for the operation, said the operation was very successful. Once arriving back in Viet Nam, the coach will meet officials from the VFF to discuss his plans for the upcoming Asian Cup 2007. His first task will be to recruit the best players he can find for the national team. The team will practice at the National Sports Center No.1 beginning on June 19. Head coach of the Thai national football team, Charnwit Polcheewin, announced he would resign to join Vietnam's top-flight V-League club Dong Thap next month and reap the benefits of a record salary. Sources revealed that the Vietnamese club would pay Polcheewin between US$13,000 and $15,000 a month alongside allowances for cars, accommodation and bonuses. Nguyen Huu Thang has agreed to become head coach of the national football team, according to the Viet Nam Football Federation (VFF). The former national midfielder will take the heavy duty for two years. Earlier, the VFF fired Japanese coach Toshyia Miura after his poor result after nearly two years. "The National Coach Council has introduced several candidates and I have talked with them before choosing Thang as the most suitable person for the position," said Le Hoai Anh, VFF general secretary. "We have discussed with him and basically things are finalised. If nothing changes at the last minute, Thang will be the national head coach," said Anh. "The contract will valid for 24 months and Thang will start working in March, guiding Viet Nam in two matches against Chinese Taipei and Iraq at the World Cup qualification round."
