P&G Vietnam, Saigon Co.op support women By Quoc Hung - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC - The Saigon Union of Trading Co-operatives (Saigon Co.op), Procter & Gamble Vietnam Company (P&G Vietnam), and the Vietnam's Woman Union last Friday signed a cooperation agreement to carry out a charity program for helping Vietnamese women to establish a stable career for their future. The program entitled "Stable Job, Brighter Future" will focus on those from 18 to 30 years old in 15 provinces and cities where Saigon Co.op's Co.opMart supermarkets are located. Under the VND1-billion program, P&G Vietnam will extract VND350 from sales of each of its products sold at Co.opMart supermarket chain. Meanwhile, the Vietnam's Woman Union will cooperate with provincial women unions to choose and propose the trainee list for training. Saigon Co.op has 35 supermarkets in Vietnam. E-mart ready to play the retail game
South Korea's retail giant E-mart is ready to jump into Vietnam. The retailer, which has 127 stores across its home country and 25 stores in China, late last week signed a joint venture contract with Binh Duong province-based U&I Investment Corporation to jump into Vietnam. E-mart will be the second Korean retailer to enter Vietnam after Lotte Mart. Under the $80 million contract, E-mart will contribute 80 per cent of the capital and the rest from U&I. E-mart is set to open its first convenience store in Hanoi in 2012 and expand its stores in Vietnam to 52 before 2020. Japanese retailer AEON Co Ltd, well known for it Jusco supermarket chain, also plans to enter Vietnam by 2013. With annual gross revenues of around $15 billion, AEON expects to become one of the three leading retailers in Asia in 10 years, in which Vietnam would become AEON's fourth foreign market after China, Thailand and Malaysia. Saigon Co.op promotes VietGAP products Ngoc Hung By Ngoc Hung - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – Co.opMart supermarkets, operated by Saigon Union of Trading Co-operatives (Saigon Co.op), will have sections dedicated to vegetables meeting the standards of Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices (VietGAP). Saigon Co.op on Thursday signed a contract with 16 co-operatives and production facilities practicing VietGAP for the long-term supply of vegetables to its supermarket chain. The supermarket operator will set up special areas for VietGAP items in Co.opMart stores so that consumers can easily recognize. Nguyen Thi Hanh, general director of Saigon Co.op, said that since VietGAP-certified vegetables would be directly supplied to Co.opMart supermarkets, they would have lower prices in this supermarket chain. Vietnamese handicrafts to go to Europe
A sales contract to export Vietnamese handicrafts to European markets has just been obtained by Vinh Phuoc Handicraft Co-Op in Ninh Hoa District, Khanh Hoa Province, said the Manager of the Co-Op. Under the contract, the Co-Op will export 1.2 million products to Europe at a price of around VND 50,000 – 60,000 each. The products include baskets, trays, carpets and flower vases, all adorned with attractive designs, and which are made from sedge and coconut leaves. According to sources at the Co-Op, the first contract is worth US $95,325, with an option for renewal if the first batch of exports meets the quality and requirements set by the clients. At this point, the Co-Op is gearing up its production line to be able export the first batch of products on October 30 th as per the contract.
