Student exhibition brings new energy to city life The Saigon Times Part of the Saigon: Interplay exhibition, “Monsters of Saigon” by RMIT student Bui Cam Vy showcases exhibits “to he” figurines made by children, with the purpose of acknowledging and sharing feelings about traumas – PHOTOS: COURTESY OF ORGANIZER HCMC – Design students from RMIT University are showcasing their fresh takes on urban transformation and human connections at the Saigon: Interplay exhibition in HCMC, the result of a three-month project between the Museum of HCMC and RMIT, focusing on the transformation of Vietnam’s biggest metropolis. The exhibition features over 20 works by final-year students from RMIT University’s Bachelor of Design Studies program. “AĂ ” by Truong Thanh An, Kee Zi Sing and Tran Bich Tuyet Nhi aims to help people recognize the hidden identity of Saigon through an interactive public event With the mutual aim of connecting the city and its people, the ideas presented range from community video and photography projects to public art work displays, motorbike parades, bicycling tours and other novel ideas. “Saigon Slumber Party” by Le Cao My Phuong is a free-entry fashion event that invites people to share their self identity in their most comfortable outfit Prior to coming up with this project, RMIT lecturers found that technological and media innovations over the past 20 years have left museums around the world questioning traditional models of artifact collection, conservation, exhibition and publication. Thus, museums are turning to their immediate surroundings to ask how they can renew their local ties and refresh their community bonds. All 11 fresh Covid-19 community cases reported this morning, March 2, are in Hai Duong – PHOTO: MINISTRY OF HEALTH HCMC – Vietnam reported 11 new Covid-19 cases by community transmission in the northern province of Hai Duong this morning, March 2, sending the country’s tally to 2,472 to date, said the Ministry of Health. Among the new patients, 10 are residents of Kim Dinh Commune and one is from Ngu Phuc Commune of Kim Thanh District. They were linked to previously confirmed Covid-19 patients and were placed in quarantine on February 28. They are being treated at the Field Hospital No.3 at the Sao Do University in the province. Overall, the country has confirmed 1,562 locally-infected cases up to now, with 869 of them being recorded since January 27. During the latest coronavirus wave, Hai Duong, which is currently Vietnam’s biggest coronavirus hotspot, reported the highest number of community cases at 684. Of them, 297 patients have been declared free of the coronavirus. Given the complicated development of the disease, the steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control of Hai Duong on March 1 decided to quarantine the entire Kim Dinh Commune in 14 days. The commune is home to 2,120 households with more than 7,500 residents. Among the nation’s tally, 1,892 patients have fully recovered, while deaths remained at 35. …

Restaurants and cafes in Hà Nội can reopen, street stalls and bars remain closed

A cafe on Nguyễn Hữu Huân is closed off following local COVID-19 outbreaks in Hà Nội. — VNA/VNS Photo Thành Đạt HÀ NỘI — Restaurants and cafes in Hà Nội were allowed to re-open under certain conditions as from 0:00 on Tuesday (March 2), the capital city’s authorities have announced, lifting the closure order enforced two weeks ago. The requirements include a distance of one metre from one customer to another or a shield between them. All restaurants have to report their COVID-19 prevention and control work via an app. Discos, bars, karaoke venues, online games shops, and sidewalk food stalls and trà đá (iced tea) mobile stalls will remain closed, however. Local authorities have also requested agencies to check COVID-19 prevention and control at religious facilities in preparation for their operations opening. At the city’s COVID-19 meeting on Monday, Deputy Director of the municipal health department Hoàng Đức Hạnh said the local outbreaks had been basically placed under control, with the city recording no new community cases for 14 consecutive days. However, new cases could still emerge, as foreign experts and technicians are allowed to enter the city, and students from across the nation will return to the city to resume in-person learning at universities and colleges. Between February 17 and March 1, Hà Nội logged 35 COVID-19 cases, with 18 sites sealed off over links to the cases. Quarantine has now ended at all of these sites. — VNS …
