Croatia crush Argentina 3-0 to reach knockout stage

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, Russia, June 21 - Classy Croatia handed Argentina a 3-0 drubbing to claim a place in the World Cup knockout stage thanks to goals by Ante Rebic, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic in their Group D match on Thursday. Rebic seized on a gaffe by keeper Willy Caballero to open the way to victory for the Balkan side before a superb strike from outside the area by captain Modric 10 minutes from time with Rakitic putting the icing on the cake in added time. Twice champions Argentina face a struggle to reach the last 16 even with Lionel Messi in their ranks after taking one point from their first two games. Croatia top the group with six. Argentina's woes began when Caballero picked up a backpass and inexplicably lobbed it towards Rebic, who twisted in the air to whack in a volley in the 53rd minute. …

Climate pledges for 2030 put world far off 1.5C goal, UN warns

A U.N. report summarizing the revised climate action plans - covering about 40 percent of countries in the 2015 Paris Agreement and 30 percent of planet-heating emissions - said they would deliver a combined emissions reduction of only 0.5 percent from 2010 levels by 2030. "That simply is not good enough," said Patricia Espinosa, urging governments - including those that have already updated their plans - to come up with larger promised cuts before COP26. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has said global emissions must fall by about 45 percent by 2030 from 2010 levels to give the world a good chance of limiting the rise in average temperatures to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial times. Under the Paris accord, nearly 200 countries pledged to keep warming to "well below" 2C, and strive for a ceiling of 1.5C. So far, the planet has heated up by about 1.2C, bringing worsening extreme weather and rising seas. Espinosa said the synthesis report made clear "current levels of climate ambition are very far from putting nations on a pathway" to meet the 1.5C goal. "It is incredible to think that just when nations are facing a (climate) emergency that could eventually end human life on this planet ... many are sticking to their business-as-usual approach," she told journalists. But if governments invest trillions of dollars in planned spending to revive their economies from Covid-19 on green, climate-resilient measures, "we stand a chance of changing the trajectory," she added. Espinosa emphasized that the report released on Friday was just a "snapshot" of climate action plans to date and another more complete assessment would be compiled before COP26. Many countries missed a 2020 deadline to submit stronger climate action plans because of disruption caused by the pandemic, with the COP26 summit in Glasgow postponed for a year. The 75 countries that did submit revised plans on time include COP26 host Britain and the 27 member states of …

Annual report finds top engagement drivers shifted significantly during 2020HONG KONG SAR - Media OutReach - 8 February 2021 - New research released today by Qualtrics, the leader in employee experience (EX) and creator of the experience management (XM) category, has revealed significant shifts to the drivers of employee engagement in Hong Kong in 2021.   According to the 2021 Hong Kong Employee Experience Trends Report, four of the top five employee engagement drivers changed over the last year. Feeling organisational changes are managed well, having in place processes allowing employees to be as productive as possible, and resources to explore new ideas emerged as the new top three drivers of engagement in the country. Open and honest communication, and confidence in senior leadership - last year's top driver - completed the top five.   The engagement drivers to drop out of the top five were a clear link between work and the company's strategic objectives, managers who help employees with career development, opportunities for learning and development, and recognition for good work.   Employee engagement in Singapore on the rise    While global employee engagement levels rose 13% in the last year (66% in 2020 vs. 53% in 2019), engagement of employees in Hong Kong fell to 57% in 2020, from 63% in 2019.   An important contributor to overall employee experience, well-being continues to be a priority for workers across the globe and is predicted to be a key trend for organisations in 2021. Among employees in Hong Kong, more than six in 10 (62%) rated their well-being as favourable, just below the global average (67%). Most notably, a sense of belonging at an organisation has the greatest impact on overall wellbeing.
