Foreign woman loves Ao Dai, brings Vietnamese silk to the world

Born and raised in Europe but Liisi has a special passion for Vietnamese Ao Dai (traditional gown) and Vietnamese silk products. Liisi next to silk garments from her own brand. Business started from the love for Ao Dai Liisi Mari (born 1990) was born and raised in Estonia. Liisi's family had been painters for three generations, so she inherited some of that talent. Living in the cradle of art, since childhood Liisi has always been immersed in paintbrushes and canvases. Her favorite technique is drawing on silk. Later, Liisi graduated from the University of Arts in Estonia and went to Hong Kong (China) to study. Here, she met the man of her dreams and got married to a Vietnamese. “When we first met, I often shared with my husband Ngoc my hobbies. He said Vietnam is a famous country for its silk. We talked about a lot of things but I was really fascinated when he had the same aspirations,” Liisi said. When she was introduced to Ngoc’s family, his mother brought her to a tailor to make an Ao Dai as a gift. The first time she held the Ao Dai in her hands, Liisi felt a strange sensation. In Liisi's head, the image of paint brushes dancing on her shirt appeared. Just like that, she was infatuated with Ao Dai in all its magnificence. Since then, Liisi has spent most of her time studying silk and Ao Dai. The young Estonian woman decided to choose silk to start a business thanks to her love of the Vietnamese Ao Dai. In 2018, she got married and moved to Vietnam to live with her husband. In addition to painting, Liisi occasionally does modeling work. Liisi is so “addicted” to Ao Dai that she wears them whenever a special occasion comes up, whether it is Tet or a wedding or party. “Ao Dai contains the essence of national identity. Exhibition: “Those who do not move, do not notice their chains”

The Hanoitimes - The exhibition, held by international and Vietnamese female artists in Hanoi to commemorate life and work of Rosa Luxemburg, will be opened to public from March 5 to April 12 In commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Rosa Luxemburg, the Non-governmental organization of Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung in Hanoi will organize an exhibition titled “Those who do not move, do not notice their chains”, showcasing artworks from five female artists. Illustration by Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung, Hanoi Office. The title of the exhibition is taken one of Rosa Luxemburg’s famous quote: “Those who do not move, do not notice their chains.” “This presentation is a response and an echo to Rosa Luxemburg’s life of fighting for a fair society,” noted by Tuan Mami, the curator of the exhibition. The idea of this exhibition is built upon Rosa’s inspiration and her revolutionary theory, to keep the link between people whose strive to devote their lives for humanity and who always act to make society better. This unique showcase brings together five female voices who have contributed significantly to society and culture through their arts and activities. The five artists (Veronika Radulovic, Nguyen Trinh Thi, Nguyen Phuong Linh and Joyce Ho) come from different backgrounds, societies, and generations. Border Guard Academy responds to the tree-planting festival

Major General Nguyen Anh Tuan, Political Chief of the Border Guard Command; Major General Trinh Hoang Hiep, Director of the Border Guard Academy; Senior Colonel Nguyen Thai Sinh, Political Commissar of the academy; and other high-ranking officers attended the event. Speaking at the launching ceremony, Senior Colonel Sinh said that the academy has set a goal to plant 10,000 green trees in 2021. The program is a meaningful activity in response  to the tree-planting festival across the country and the government’s program of planting one billion trees, as well as to build a green, clean, and attractive school. In addition, General Sinh also asked the academy to promote information dissemination among its teachers and cadets about the importance of tree-planting and encourage them to plant more trees to beautify their barracks. Addressing the ceremony, General Tuan said that over the past years, under the direction of the Border Guard Command, the Politics Department of the command instructed its agencies and units to work with the VietinBank branches across the countries to launch the tree-planting festival on the first days of  the lunar new year. So far, the agencies and units have planted more than 90,000 trees. Also, General Tuan acknowledged and hailed the efforts of the academy’s leadership and troops in fulfilling their assigned tasks in response to the tree-planting festival and the government’s program of planting one billion trees. He added that the Political Department of the Border Guard Command and other departments will support VND 100 million for the academy in buying seedlings and tools to plant trees and care for newly-planted trees.
