Ministry proposes issuing chip-based citizen identification card for children under 6

(Photo courtesy of the Ministry of Public Security ) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - The Ministry of Public Security has proposed that children under the age of six, can receive both birth certificate and chip-based citizen identification card at the same time when their birth is registered. However, the issuance of the chip-based citizen identification card will not be mandatory, and only carried out if parents or guardians want them. The proposal was made under the draft Law on Citizenship Identity (amended). The information was also posted on the official website of the ministry last week for opinions from experts and interested parties. Ailing woman seeks help for children facing leukaemia
An ailing woman in the northern province of Bac Giang is calling for community support to save her two children who are both struggling with leukaemia. Ngo Thi Nga, 32, from Lang Giang District’s Tien Luc Commune has been living with thyroid cancer. However, she has suspended her treatment for many months due to the family’s financial difficulties. According to Nga, in 2014, her eldest daughter Nguyen Thuy Ngan faced consecutive high fevers. After being taken to a hospital in Hanoi, she was diagnosed with leukaemia. Nga and her children Ngan fainted in her class several times and then had to suspend her studies for treatment. In 2016, her second child Nguyen Trong Khanh, three years old, faced the same symptoms as Ngan and was also diagnosed with leukaemia. Nga burst into tears after receiving the news from doctors. A child was killed and another was seriously injured on Thursday after they were hit by a train along a railway line in the western German town of Recklinghausen, local authorities said. Bild newspaper said the victims were dragged by a freight train for several hundred meters (yards). "It's horrible. Children and trains and at such a young age, it's just horrible what happened here and one can only hope the parents will have the strength to overcome this great misfortune," Herbert Reul, the interior minister in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, told journalists at the scene. Program held to support orphaned children

The video, which was published by the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam on its official Facebook page Sunday morning, showed Knapper and his wife Suzuko making Lunar New Year cards with the help of their staff. One of the cards, written in Braille, was sent to blind Vietnamese girls. One of them read it out loud as she traced the letters with her hands. Children with facial defects in Central regions get free surgeries
The program is arranged by a delegation of experts from the Republic of Korea’s (RoK) Chonbuk National University, and Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital (Hue UMP). It provides free oral and maxillofacial surgeries for 30 children out of the kids. On this occasion, doctors offer medical examinations for patients who received surgeries during last year’s program. Following the surgeries, the young patients receive treatment at a center for phonetic placement therapy at the hospital. Dr. Tran Tan Tai, Vice Head of the Faculty of Odonto-Stomatology at the Hue UMP, said Prof. Shin Hyo-keun of the Chonbuk National University and doctors and medical students from the RoK started to provide operations for 38 patients in 2006. One-third of concrete pillar with dead boy inside excavated from construction site
Rescuers are pulling the concrete pillar up section by section. Nam and three other children who are his neighbors went to the bridge construction site in Dong Thap Province on December 31 to gather pieces of iron for the purpose of selling them to scrap vendors to earn some money. The boy, who weighed merely 20kg, was walking when he fell into the hollow concrete pillar, which is just 25cm across. No one knows for sure where the boy is located in the pillar.
