Children need help right now," Sheldon Yett said. The floods have also disrupted health facilities, shut schools and disrupted malnutrition treatment for hundreds of children, Yett told a briefing in Geneva. Cases of diarrhoea have risen to 2,700 as of the middle of this week, he added. Authorities in Bangladesh and neighbouring India have warned of a risk of a disease epidemic. In total, more than 4.5 million people have been stranded and dozens killed in Bangladesh, many in the worst flooding in the Sylhet region in the northeast for more than 100 years. In the eastern Indian state of Assam, Indian air force helicopters have been deployed … [Read more...] about Bangladesh floods leave 3.5 million children needing clean water: UNICEF

U.S. House passes gun-safety legislation as court expands gun rights
The House voted 234-193 for the bill. No Democrats were opposed, while 14 Republicans backed the measure. It was supported by major law enforcement groups and its passage was a rare defeat for U.S. gun manufacturers and the National Rifle Association. House action followed a late Thursday Senate vote of 65-33 to pass the bill, with 15 Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, in favor. Biden will sign the bill on Saturday morning, the White House said. However, it did not ban sales … [Read more...] about U.S. House passes gun-safety legislation as court expands gun rights
Press photo exhibition to celebrate revolutionary journalism
The first Vietnamese newspapers were published in the early 20th century, bringing together writers, journalists, and intellectuals from across the country. On June 21, 1925 revolutionary leader Nguyễn Ái Quốc (President Hồ Chí Minh) established the Thanh Niên (Young People) newspaper. This marked the beginning of the unification of the Vietnamese press and the revolutionary press series. Since the publication of the Thanh Niên newspaper, the Vietnamese press has raised the revolution flag, articulated the desire and ambitions of the Vietnamese people, and pointed out the country's course for independence and freedom from French colonialism. Since then June 21 has become the Việt Nam Revolutionary Press Day or the Việt Nam Press Day to honour those who work in the field of journalism. This year, the Việt Nam Women's Museum … [Read more...] about Press photo exhibition to celebrate revolutionary journalism
