At Singapore summit, experts hail innovation as key to countering global uncertainty, disruption

The International Innovation Summit 2019 for Asian governments and corporates was held in Singapore on Wednesday morning by Enterprise Asia with support from the Singaporean government. Themed 'Innovation Trailblazers: Creating for Disruption,' the three-day summit is expected to promote discourse on the role of innovation in combating global uncertainty and disruption. A key focus of the summit is the emphasis on Asian governments prioritizing innovation within their borders and homegrown technology to counter global disruption by shifting technologies and market forces. Singapore calls on regional nations to implement common rules for seas

Minister of Defence Ng Eng Hen delivers the opening address at the International Maritime Defence Exhibition & Conference (IMDEX) Asia 2019. (Source: www.mindef.gov.sg) All Asian-Pacific countries need strong consensus in implementing common rules for the seas to maintain maritime security, Singaporean Minister of Defence Ng Eng Hen has said. Ng made the call at the opening ceremony of the 12th International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (IMDEX) Asia in Singapore on May 14. While underlining the importance of marine trade to the Asian-Pacific region, he said despite global uncertainties, including trade disputes and security tensions, trade volumes through the seas have been increasing and are expected to increase further. As traditional maritime threats such as transnational maritime terrorism, piracy, and trafficking of drugs, weapons and humans persist, more cooperation between governments and armed forces are needed, Ng said. Rainbow murals bring some cheer to Delhi slum

Raghubir Nagar, like other slums in the megacity of 20 million, is home to those on the margins of Indian society, families living cheek-by-jowl in ramshackle structures often lacking basic amenities. But in less than a month 15 to 20 volunteers refashioned the craggy facades of nearly a hundred structures in rainbow colours with huge murals depicting nature, religion and daily life. "The aim was to bring some positive change and confidence in the locals, who were usually forgotten by society," Yogesh Saini, founder of Delhi Art Street said.
