Pham Van Chinh besides the dead chickens Tien Thanh and Ma Thanh Communes in Yen Thanh District are known as Nghe An’s Chicken Kingdom, but the cheap chicken prices have caused farmers to incur losses over the past time, forcing them to scale down their flocks or give up breeding chickens. Pham Van Chinh in Tien Thanh Commune said his family had incurred losses of VND1 billion (USD42,962) so far this year. Since early this year, the price of animal feed sharply increased while the price of chicken dropped dramatically. Currently, a 25kg-bag of bran costs VND360,000, an increase of 15 percent compared to last year but the current chicken prices range from VND38,000-40,000 a kg. Hanoi police bust ring smuggling drugs from Europe to Vietnam

June 8, 2023 by tuoitrenews.vn

Police in Hanoi have arrested four suspects and seized more than 62kg of synthetic drugs, cracking down on a ring that smuggled drugs disguised as food and home appliances from European countries into Vietnam. The kingpin, 27-year-old Hoang Tien Dung, hailing from northern Hung Yen Province, was arrested during a coordination between the police of Hanoi and their colleagues in Hung Yen from May 4 to 7. To create a screen to hide his illegal drug smuggling, Dung set up an agency providing purified water and a night eatery in Hung Yen but used these facilities as the places to receive and deliver drugs, Hanoi police reported on Tuesday. Also detained with Dung were his two accomplices, Tran Van Tuan, 19, and Dao Ngoc Long, 35, both from Hung Yen. Tuan directly aided Dung in the illegal sale of smuggled drugs in Vietnam while Long acted as a middleman for Dung to deal with a suspect living abroad to buy drugs from European countries. Singapore comedian’s jokes about MH370 plane disappearance draw ire

June 8, 2023 by e.vnexpress.net

In a video that has been circulating on the Internet since Wednesday, Jocelyn Chia joked about how Malaysian airplanes "cannot fly" during a stand-up performance at a comedy club in the U.S. "Malaysian Airlines going missing not funny huh?" she said in the video. "Some jokes don't land," she added, seemingly referring to the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines MH370, with 239 people on board now presumed dead. She also made crude remarks about Malaysia as a country, with quips like "they don't have Internet." The jokes drew quick criticisms from online communities and authorities from both Malaysia and Singapore alike. "This is so disrespectful and you shouldn't use the airlines as a joke to those families that had lost their loved ones," read one comment posted about the video on Facebook. "She shouldn’t make fun of MH370, that’s just bad taste," said another commenter on YouTube. In response to the incident, Malaysian Foreign Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir said Chia’s act … [Read more...] about Singapore comedian’s jokes about MH370 plane disappearance draw ire

June 8, 2023 by tuoitrenews.vn

HANOI -- Two Chinese makers of energy storage systems and batteries are weighing investments worth hundreds of millions of dollars in Vietnam, industry and government sources said. The combined value of the investments could exceed $1 billion, according to one person with direct knowledge of the discussions. A growing number of Chinese companies are launching or expanding manufacturing projects in Vietnam, a global export hub thanks to its array of free trade deals and cheap labour. Xiamen Hithium Energy Storage Technology, a startup that is expanding in Europe and the U.S., has approached officials and industry managers in Vietnam to potentially invest up to $900 million to build a plant on more than 30 hectares of industrial land, the person said. If the investment is finalised at that figure, the company would become one of the largest foreign investors in Vietnam. A second source familiar with the discussions said the investment under consideration would be worth at … [Read more...] about Chinese energy storage, battery firms consider big investments in Vietnam
