Lao top legislator pays Tet visit to Vietnam’s officers, soldiers working at Laos’ NA House

Nguyen Chien to welcome the Year of the Buffalo (Photo: VNA) Vientiane (VNA) – Chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly (NA) Pany Yathotou paid a visit on February 11 to officers and soldiers of Army Corps 11 of the Vietnam People’s Army who are working on the construction of the Lao NA House, on the occasion of the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival. On behalf of the Lao NA Standing Committee and the Steering Committee for the new NA House project, Lao NA Vice Chairman Somphanh Phengkhammy extended New Year wishes to all officers, soldiers and staff of Army Corps 11 involving in the building of the NA House. He appreciated their efforts to overcome difficulties, particularly impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, to fulfill the political task assigned by the two Parties, States and peoples, thus contributing to consolidating the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations. He also congratulated the success of the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which, he said, set out new guidelines and plans for Vietnam to continue implementing its goal of becoming an industrialised and modernized country. Vietnam government urged to prepare economic plans for prolonged Covid-19

The Hanoitimes - Lawmakers said the government needs to make an accurate assessment of the economy to find comprehensive solutions. Vietnam’s National Assembly, the country’s highest legislative body, has said the government needs to have well-prepared economic plans in case the Covid-19 pandemic prolongs. Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung said at the 53rd session of the NA’s Standing Committee on February 23. Photo: VGP Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for External Relations Nguyen Van Giau said an accurate assessment of the situation is necessary to find comprehensive solutions in the course of uncertainties of the global health crisis. It requires strategies that can take advantage of the world integration process with a focus on regional development, agriculture, and increasing living standards of ethnic minorities and those in remote areas, Giau said at the 53rd session of the NA’s Standing Committee on February 23. Giau's request is part of NA's feedback on the 2016-2021 government performance report. He highlighted the signing of different free trade agreements, market expansion, macroeconomic stability, maintained balance of payments, and trade surplus by the outgoing cabinet. The NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said she was impressed with the governance of the Prime Minister, Deputy PMs, and the cabinet members who are very brave, confident and knowledgeable. Speaking at the meeting, Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung said the government has taken along the policy making with law enforcement, stepping up administration reforms, improving business investment environment and the national competitiveness. First Vietnam-Russia Inter-parliamentary Commission discusses new areas of cooperation

The Hanoitimes - The two sides consider inter-parliamentary cooperation an important component of the strategic partnership between the two countries. The first Vietnam-Russia inter-parliament meeting has opened up new areas of cooperation that are poised to foster the comprehensive strategic partnership. Photo: VNA Vietnam’s National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Vyacheslav V. Volodin co-chaired the meeting in Moscow last week. “It would be right for us to work more intensively in the economic sphere, developing both foreign economic relations and goods circulation. It is clearly insufficient for the level of our relations. […] For our part, we must do everything to develop cooperation more effectively than today,” the State Duma quoted Viacheslav Volodin. “When we talk about the work of our inter-parliament commission, it should do everything to ensure more dynamical development of foreign economic relations,” he said at the meeting. Viacheslav Volodin supported the idea of creating working groups and said that the adoption of legislative decisions would entail a more active development of relations. Meanwhile, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said “We will do our best to develop cooperation between our countries, trade and economic relations better.
