This year's National Day is a solemn occasion for all Sri Lankans as we are slowly recovering from the biggest catastrophe experienced in our country's 2500-year history. The tsunami that struck the Sri Lankan coastline on December 26 left behind extensive physical scars and painful memories for our people.
