The Quang Nam provincial government will hand over more than VND2 billion to the central province's Department of Education and Training to pay local teachers' overdue pensions. The over US$128,000 in pension funds were due from April 2004 to December 2007. Fund backs measures to fight flooding in central provinces
Phan Dien, president of the Natural Disaster Relief Fund, spoke with Quan doi Nhan dan (People's Army) newspaper about natural disaster mitigation in the central region. Why was the Natural Disaster Relief Fund established? The fund was established in 2007 after the country's central provinces were hit hard by floods and storms, which destroyed property and claimed several lives. After the flooding, individuals, enterprises and organisations requested me to provide more support to victims in the flood-stricken areas. We came up with an idea to establish a fund that would support central Viet Nam, where storms and flooding are routine. Central Province Opens “Electronic School”
An "electronic school" has been put into operation on the website http://ischoolnet.qti21.com/lequydon to provide local students, teachers and parents at the Le Quy Don High School in the central province of Quang Nam with easy access to study materials, the school's activities and related information. The electronic school was a project initiated by the Quang Nam Province's Department of Education and Training to bring modern technology into local schools. The ischoolnet model was developed by the province's Center for Telecom and Information Technology and it is the first of its kind in Quang Nam Province. Le Quy Don High School was chosen as a pilot. The website serves as an electronic library to provide detailed information on each subject taught at school including studying materials, lectures, curriculums and online tests. Central province 4 years in arrears for teachers salaries
Quang Nam province in central Vietnam owes teachers their salaries since 2003, with the arrears now mounting to a whopping VND1.5 billion (US$93,750). Nguyen Minh Hoang, deputy director of the province’s education department attributed the financial problem Thursday to the education sector’s low fund allocation. He said his agency has asked local government to allocate more funds for the sector, expected this July. Que Son district owes teachers, especially in preschools, the aforesaid money which is to cover their increased teaching shifts since 2003. Many teachers here only receive VND350,000 in basic monthly salary while the minimum wage has been raised to VND450,000 nationwide. Truong Thi Don, headmistress of Nguyen Trai Senior High School in the province’s Hoi An Town said that the school must pay out VND1.5 billion (US$93,750) each year to its teachers.
