The department will operate under the management of the municipal People’s Committee and follow professional directions and instructions from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The establishment of the department is an upgrade of the six-year pilot operation of the municipal Food Safety Management Board. The move is also in line with the National Assembly’s Resolution 98/2023/QH 15 on special mechanisms and policies for the city’s development. Tourists wary of rip-offs in HCMC
French tourist Laurine, who visited HCMC for the first time earlier this month, said before her trip to Vietnam her friends told her she should haggle at half the initial price when buying items in HCMC. When Laurine visited Ben Thanh in downtown area, she was impressed by the beauty of the century-old market with French colonial architecture. She dropped by souvenir stalls inside the market and asked to buy conical hats and small embroidered paintings, but vendors charged her over VND200,000 (US$8.22) for each item. She then negotiated with the vendors and bargained for 50-70% of the initial price. All apartments across Vietnam must be undergone fire safety inspection by mid-November: PM
Vietnam's national police are requested to conduct fire prevention inspection in types of high-density housing that are prone to fire and explosion. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered a general inspection of fire safety in all apartments, tenement buildings, high-density rental houses, private buildings and offices throughout Vietnam by November 15. The move follows a tragic fire at a tenement building in an alley on Khuong Ha Street in Hanoi's Thanh Xuan District on September 12. Officials confirmed that 56 people were killed and 37 others injured. Ten of the victims were children.
