Some of the world's leading makers of flu vaccines say they could make hundreds of millions of bird flu shots for humans within months if a new strain of avian influenza ever jumps across the species divide. One current outbreak of avian flu known as H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b has killed record numbers of birds and infected mammals. Human cases, however, remain very rare, and global health officials have said the risk of transmission between humans is still low. Executives at three vaccine manufacturers – GSK Plc, Moderna Inc, and CSL Seqirus, owned by CSL Ltd - told Reuters they are already developing or about to test sample human vaccines that better match the circulating subtype, as a precautionary measure against a future pandemic. Others, like Sanofi, said they "stand ready" to begin production if needed, with existing H5N1 vaccine strains in stock. There has also been a push among companies to develop a bird flu vaccine for poultry, a market potentially far larger than that for … [Read more...] about Vaccine makers prep bird flu shot for humans ‘just in case’; rich nations lock in supplies

New global tax to diminish Vietnam’s FDI attractiveness
The 15% tax on profits, which was approved by 136 countries in 2021, is considered the deepest overhaul of cross-border tax rules in decades. The purpose of the overhaul is to ensure that tech giants such as Apple and Google will not have an unfair advantage by booking their profits in low-tax countries such as Ireland. The tax applies to multinationals with total revenues of at least EUR750 million ($819 million) in two of the preceding four years. This means that a company that invests in a foreign country will have be taxed by that country by at least 15%. Vietnam, along with the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, and the E.U. plan to start collecting the tax next year. It is estimated that 100 multinationals will be affected by the tax, which is expected to yield an extra $220 billions in tax income globally. Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen, deputy director of publicity at Canon Vietnam, said that tax incentive is one of the key factors for the company to maintain its large-scale … [Read more...] about New global tax to diminish Vietnam’s FDI attractiveness

Many garment-importing countries were taking action for sustainable and circular textiles. The European Commission was calling for an end to fast fashion by 2030 with the Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textile which set eco-design rules, starting with textiles. Fortinet adds new capabilities to support work-from-anywhere
Multinational cybersecurity company Fortinet has announced several enhancements to its single-vendor solution FortiSASE, enabling additional deployment flexibility and new secure access capabilities for digital resources across private applications, software as a service (SaaS), and the internet. More than half of the respondents to a recent Fortinet work-from-anywhere survey support hybrid workforces, meaning most CEOs are tasked with the challenge of securing users as they contribute from home, the office or elsewhere. Comprehensive security for all users is near impossible when using solutions that are in the cloud or not integrated on-premises. The larger and more distributed the network, the more pervasive these issues can be. Providing consistent security to a global hybrid workforce working from multiple locations requires a single-vendor approach. John Maddison, executive vice president of Products and CMO at Fortinet said, “In today's work-from-anywhere world where users … [Read more...] about Fortinet adds new capabilities to support work-from-anywhere
