Air cargo service encouraged By Mong Binh - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC - Domestic airlines are encouraged to develop air cargo service now as the licensing of passenger service is probably suspended, an official of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) said. "We have a policy that provides favorable conditions for existing airlines to develop their cargo service and transport cargo by their own freighters," said Vo Huy Cuong, director of CAAV's Air Transport Department. He told the Daily that domestic airlines now carried cargo on their passenger aircraft, and such full-service airlines had to spend more time to load cargo compared to the aircraft of low-cost carriers, as budget carriers had to operate their planes more to maximize revenue. Cuong said CAAV would facilitate the licensing of freight airlines during the coming years as new passenger airlines will not be allowed until 2011 under a proposal the civil aviation authority has sent to the Ministry of Transport. … [Read more...] about Air cargo service encouraged

Vietnam’s aviation market attracting more foreign partners
Foreign carriers are opening routes to Vietnam, which Vietnam authorities consider a good sign for the country’s aviation industry. While LOT Polish Airlines has canceled its operation to Hanoi due to low demand and Jetstar Airway is flying through Singapore instead of directly from Darwin to Vietnam, many carriers, especially those from Asia, are expanding their services to Vietnam, according to a Wednesday report by news website VnExpress. A representative of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam said in the report “The international transport market is still positive and is showing signs of growth.” In late March, United Airlines and Japan's All Nippon Airways announced their agreement to cooperate in an effort to open the Vietnam-US route as of April 1, with flights transiting in Hong Kong, Japan or both. Earlier on March 23, the Filipino airline Cebu Pacific opened two weekly flights between Manila and Hanoi. Airports expected to handle 600,000 tons of cargo this year
HCMC - The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) has projected that approximately 600,000 tons of cargo will have been cleared at the country's all airports by the end of this year compared to 460,000 tons last year. Vo Huy Cuong, director of CAAV's Air Transport Department, told the Daily on the phone on Tuesday that 600,000 tons was the preliminary calculation for the combined cargo volume at all airports this year and the actual figure would likely change when the figure for December was available. The 600,000 tons of cargo transported by nearly 50 local and foreign airlines is lower than 690,000 tons of cargo that CAAV aimed for this year. This lower-than-expected volume is attributable to economic difficulties in Vietnam and global uncertainties that have impacted on the civil aviation industry. However, Cuong said it was notable that the value of goods transported by air had increased this year as foreign-invested companies including electronics companies were … [Read more...] about Airports expected to handle 600,000 tons of cargo this year
