Both Vietnamese men's and women’s U23 football teams advance to the finals and compete for gold medals. Vietnam and Thailand will compete for the gold medal at the finals of SEA Games 31 after the two teams won their rivals 1-0 in each match both took place on May 19. The host country is getting closer to its set target of 140 golds. Thailand ranked second with 53 golds, followed by the Philippines with 37. On the day, the Vietnamese athletics team won three more gold medals in the women’s javelin throw, women’s 10,000m and women’s 4x400m, raising the number in the sport to 19 and surpassing the target of 15-17. However, they hardly found a hotel room near the stadium where the match will take place, so they then drove the car to continue searching. Mr. Quan – a fan from Thanh Hoa Province who has just arrived in Viet Tri City after 5 hours of driving - said that he took his family members to Phu Tho to watch U23 Vietnam play the semi-finals. The finals were rescheduled after Tuan tested positive for coronavirus one day earlier. In line with regulations, Tuan could not participate in the final. In the men’s Kodokan Goshin Jutsu, the couple of Tran Quoc Cuong-Phan Minh Hanh pocketed a gold medal with 550.5 points, while another couple of Nguyen Cuong Thinh-Ha Minh Duc came second with 534 points and won a silver medal. De Deus bagged two silvers in the men’s 5,000m and 10,000m events at the ongoing Games. ASEAN Football page recently published photos of the event, stating that after the men’s 10,000m competition, he held hands and ran together to celebrate with two Vietnamese runners Nguyen Van Lai and Le Van Thao, who won the gold and bronze medals, respectively.
