Vientiane (VNA) – The Vietnam Consulate General in the Lao northern province of Luang Prabang and the local Laos – Vietnam Friendship Association have kicked off a host of events to mark the Vietnam – Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022. Addressing the launch ceremony, Vietnamese Consul General Nguyen Dang Hung stressed exchanges of culture, sport, and cuisine are an occasion for tightening the close bond among Vietnamese expatriates, authorities and Lao people in Luang Prabang. Lao leaders appreciate Ho Chi Minh City-Vientiane cooperation
During the meetings, Party General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister Phankham Viphavan, National Assembly Chairman Xaysomphone Phomvihane and President of the Lao Front for National Construction Central Committee Xinlavong Khoutphaythoun all spoke highly of the cooperation between the Vietnamese southern hub and Lao capital Vientiane as well as other localities of Laos. Throughout the day, the GREAT programme team and Government of Vietnam representatives discussed evidence and lessons learned from the GREAT Programme that can help inform Vietnam’s National Target Programmes (NTPs) implementation. HCMC Party Chief visits families of late senior leaders of Laos
The city Party chief spent much time talking and commemorating the two late leaders who made great contributions to the national liberation revolution of Laos and the special friendship between the Parties, States and people of the two nations throughout history. Late Prime Minister Sisavath Keobounphanh had joined in the revolutionary activity very early, in 1947, as a soldier of the Northwestern Propaganda Volunteer Armed-Force Team. Lao government urges against unnecessary travel to save fuel
People in Laos line up to buy petrol (Photo: AFP) Vientiane (VNA) – The Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Lao Fuel and Gas Association are urging people to be frugal in their use of fuel and not to travel unnecessarily. The call is to ensure that enough reserves of petrol are available for use for farming and other essential activities. Some farmers have complained that they are unable to cultivate their crops because of the petrol shortage and called on the relevant parties to take speedy action to tackle the crisis. Khammuan is one of the many provinces suffering from a lack of fuel, and pumps at some petrol stations have run dry, meaning that many motorists are unable to use their vehicles. The National Assembly of Laos has passed a resolution to reduce the excise tax on fuel s in order to attempt to avert a fuel crisis in the country, reports Laotian Times.
