Malaysian experts praise Vietnam’s approach in tackling COVID-19
Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Vietnam controlled its borders from the very beginning and went above and beyond World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendations in managing the COVID-19 pandemic, a Malaysian expert has said. University Malaya epidemiologist Prof Dr Awang Bulgiba said the approach taken by a country and its resources determine the success rate in fighting COVID-19, adding countries have different resources and the approach is different depending on the resources. Vietnam went for virus suppression through lockdowns and traditional public health approach of contact tracing, testing and quarantine, while China’s Taiwan and Hong Kong made rigorous use of technology in contact tracing. Vietnam appreciates UN Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia’s operations
Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam welcomes positive political, security & socio-economic progress in Central Asia despite COVID-19 challenges and hopes the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) will maintain its effective activities in the region, according to Ambassador Pham Hai Anh, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the Vietnamese mission to the UN. Addressing the UN Security Council’s online meeting on UNRCCA operations on January 27, Anh expressed support for and appreciated the work of the centre and its head Natalia Gherman, describing the centre as the UN’s role model in promoting preventive diplomacy in the region.
