I am Vietnamese, says Atkinson

January 20, 2023 by vir.com.vn

Kenneth M Atkinson, chairman of the British Business Group in Vietnam Answering the question of why he decided to apply for Vietnamese citizenship, Atkinson said that it took him more than two years to prepare the procedures for his naturalisation registration. "I thought it was worth it and I became one of the few foreigners to have a Vietnamese ID. This is a great thing for me,” he said. Talking about why he took the initiative to apply for Vietnamese citizenship, Atkinson talked passionately about the country and the people of Vietnam. A peaceful but charming Hanoi with quaint street corners and French-style buildings, and a vibrant, generous, and sunny Ho Chi Minh City. Recalling the first time he came to Vietnam, he often stayed at the Army Hotel on Pham Ngu Lao Street, Hoan Kiem District. Every day, he usually went to the Metropole hotel to work. In those early years, he had a driver take him around Hanoi on a traditional cyclo. Anh Hai was the name he later saved on … [Read more...] about I am Vietnamese, says Atkinson

Vietnam’s tourism sector has witnessed a recovery

January 20, 2023 by vir.com.vn

Peter Ryder - CEO, Indochina Capital For almost a year, Vietnam’s tourism industry has witnessed a recovery but is still behind other Southeast Asian neighbours. Vietnam welcomed 2.95 million foreign visitors in January-November 2022 while Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia welcomed 10 million, 5.3 million, 6.2 million international tourists respectively during the same period. Many observers attribute the lack in foreign arrivals in 2022 to Vietnam’s restrictive tourist visa policies. More competitive and friendly tourism policies for international tourists such as 3-month multiple-entry visas, e-visa issuance, or granting visas-on-arrival at the airports will be suitable solutions to boost the tourism sector. Vietnam is one of the most open economies within Asia-Pacific, thanks to a series of economic reforms undertaken by the country’s government to create a fair and attractive business environment for foreign investors. The disbursement of foreign direct investment in … [Read more...] about Vietnam’s tourism sector has witnessed a recovery

Growing Argentinian ties

January 23, 2023 by vir.com.vn

In 1996, Argentina and Vietnam signed two agreements on economic and trade cooperation and the promotion and protection of mutual investments. After that, the relationship between the two countries was strengthened with a comprehensive partnership in 2010, and trade exchanges have grown steadily ever since. Luis Pablo Maria Beltramino Argentinian Ambassador to Vietnam Over the past 10 years, Argentina recorded a cumulative growth in exports to Vietnam of 600 per cent, while exports from Vietnam to Argentina increased by 700 per cent. This trend shows both countries have a sustainable relationship in trade. The products Argentina exports to Vietnam are mainly agricultural goods incorporated into Vietnam’s value chain and then exported to other countries. That is why we are de facto strategic partners in the agricultural and agro-industry. For its part, Vietnam exports completed consumer goods to Argentina such as mobile phones, electronic products and components, … [Read more...] about Growing Argentinian ties
