Books on Hanoi to be published Hanoi Publishing House will release two books about Hanoi in English and in French written by chief editor Huu Ngoc, a Vietnamese cultural researcher, to mark the 1,000 anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi next year, Ha Noi Moi newspaper reports. The book will introduce ancient houses and cultural relics such as pagodas, temples and festivals, and the food of Hanoi. The French book, Portrait of Traditional Hanoi-Dragon City of 1,000 years, was written in 1997 and will be republished with many new supplements. India Theatre Programme 4-Week Residency Deadline: 15 Mar 2016 Time of residency: 02 - 31 Jul 2016 The India Theatre Programme is aimed at drama school students, performers, performance-makers (with a minimum of 2-3 years of training or experience in theatre and/or performance), who are interested in expanding the range of methodologies that inform their practice and keen to work across cultural boundaries to explore other systems of performance. Through an engagement with four traditional forms of Indian theatre - Kudiyattam, Terrakoothu, Kudiyattam drumming, Seraikella Chhau - participants will explore the necessary connection between mind, body and being, and through this exploration, find their own performative truth. The first three weeks of the programme will be dedicated to learning the various forms, and the final week to creating contemporary pieces based on these learnings. Trio Maecheler performs in town Tuong Vi By Tuong Vi in HCMC A concert from Germany’s Trio Maecheler will take place at HCMC Conservatory of Music at 8 p.m. on Friday. They will perform works such as Médailles antiques (Philippe Gaubert), Subito (Witold Lutowslaski), Sonatina (Henri Dutilleux) and Tren pho xua Hanoi (Do Tuan). Trio Maecheler consists of Carin Levine, Anne Steckel and Stephan Rahn. As a soloist, Levine performs at major international music festivals and has won numerous awards and prizes, including the prestigious Kranichstein Musikpreis for the Interpretation of Contemporary Music. She collaborates extensively with many leading contemporary composers and is the author of Contemporary Music for Flute, a series of books on flute techniques. Famous Japanese viola player to perform in Hanoi
Nobuko Imai who is considered one of the most outstanding viola players of our time will travel to Vietnam to perform in a concert in Hanoi on May 15. Famous Vietnamese artists including violinists Bui Cong Duy and Dao Mai Anh, cellists Ngo Hoang Quan and Dao Thi Mo together with viola player Nguyen Thi Thu Nga will join the show. The artists will present to music lover masterpieces by W. A. Mozart, B. Britten and J.Brahms. Nobuko Imai studied at the Toho School of Music at Yale University and the Juilliard School and she has won the highest prizes at both the Munich and the Geneva international competitions. Her many prizes include the Avon Arts Award (1993), the Education Minister's Art Prize for Music awarded by the Japanese Agency of Cultural Affairs (1994), the Mobil Prize of Japan (1995) and the Suntory Music Prize (1996). Vietnam city to gift old Zen poems at UN Buddhism conference
Ho Chi Minh City will present copies of a collection of old Zen poems to participants at a United Nations festival to be held in Hanoi next May to mark the Buddha's life and enlightenment. The 2,000 copies of the book to be distributed at the fifth UN Day of Vesak and the Buddhist Cultural Week will cost the treasury VND300 million (US$19,000), according to the city government's website.
