Vietnam tourist island to ban single-use plastics
From September 1 they will be required to leave plastic behind before they get on ferries at Van Don Wharf to go to the island, according to the district's portal. Nguyen Viet Dung, chairman of the district, said the ban would be trialed for a few months before it becomes official. With the target of turning the island into an eco-tourism destination and make tourism sustainable, authorities have in recent years called on local people to limit the use of plastic products and opt for environment-friendly replacements. The island district has yet to impose a ban on local residents using plastic products. Situated around 80 kilometers from the mainland, Co To is famous for its pristine islets and primeval forests and access used to be strictly controlled due to its proximity to the Chinese border. Cu Lao Cham, or Cham Islands, a protected area treasured for its biosphere near Hoi An in central Vietnam, has prohibited visitors from bringing plastic bags since 2009. … [Read more...] about Vietnam tourist island to ban single-use plastics
The art of combined-arms operations in victory of air defense troops’ first battle
The victory in the first battle of the air defense troops also left invaluable lessons, of which the most remarkable one is the art of employing combined arms in air defense operations. To prepare for the war of destruction against North Vietnam then, from February 1964, U.S. air force used recce aircraft and paratroops to intrude the territory of North Vietnam from the sea so as to sabotage coastal economic and military facilities. At the beginning of April 1964, with the plan to air-raid 94 targets in the North, the U.S. “invented” the Gulf of Tonkin incident to legalize its war of destruction. Closely following the developments and learning the plot as well as activities in preparation for the war of destruction of the U.S. troops, in June 1964, the Politburo issued a resolution on enhancing combat capabilities and staying ready to foil the plot of the U.S. invaders. Party committees and governments of localities were to enhance their civil air defense alert and strengthen air … [Read more...] about The art of combined-arms operations in victory of air defense troops’ first battle

Facilitating recovery of Vietnam’s yarn sector in midst of US policy enforcement
What are the concerns surrounding the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) implementation among Vietnamese garment exporters to the US? Association chairman Vu Duc Giang Some of the concerns are real. Since the UFLPA became effective in June, Vietnam has witnessed certain impacts on its garment exports to the US. Vietnam has maintained its position as the world’s third-largest cotton importer with a volume of 1.5 million tonnes per year. This includes 800,000 tonnes of cotton imported from the US, accounting for 60 per cent of the total imports. In January 2021, US Customs and Border Protection announced a ban on raw fibres, apparel, and textiles made from Xinjiang-grown cotton, which also covers cotton products made in third countries. Customs will detain imported merchandise unless the importer can prove by clear and convincing evidence that the goods were not from Xinjiang. What is the status of the recommendations from the US on Chinese cotton? Vietnam … [Read more...] about Facilitating recovery of Vietnam’s yarn sector in midst of US policy enforcement
Prospects abound for land-rich industrial players
According to Ngo Thi Kim Thanh, senior expert at the Investment Analysis and Consulting Centre for SSI Research, the land lease demand in industrial zones (IZs) continues to secure positive growth for 2022 and beyond. This is attributable to diverse factors such as China’s strict pandemic policy, and reopened borders – paving the way for foreign investors to strike new deals or wrap up land lease procedures which were signed earlier. Ten Hag era at United begins with defeat to Brighton
MANCHESTER, England -- New manager Erik ten Hag saw the depth of the crisis at Manchester United when his side fell to a 2-1 Premier League defeat by Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Sunday, with German Pascal Gross scoring twice. United fans' hopes that the off-season would mark a turning point have faded, with the club failing to make major moves yet in the transfer market and there was a grim familiarity to the club's opening match. The former Ajax coach witnessed a performance that was every bit as disjointed as those produced under his predecessors Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season. The sense that this was a continuation of last year's decline began before kick-off where there were yet more loud and angry protests against United's owners, the American Glazer family, under the South Stand If that felt familiar, then the sight of Scott McTominay and Fred in midfield as United laboured against Graham Potter's superbly drilled side was verging on … [Read more...] about Ten Hag era at United begins with defeat to Brighton
‘Time against us’ in bid to rescue 10 Mexican miners after 3 days underground
Large pumps sucked water from a flooded coal mine in Mexico on Saturday as authorities weighed whether to send divers to try to save 10 miners who have been trapped underground for more than three days. The miners became trapped at a mine in the northern border state of Coahuila on Wednesday afternoon when their excavation work caused a tunnel wall to collapse, triggering flooding in three wells. President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Saturday would be "decisive" in determining whether divers could safely enter the mine. But by afternoon, Coahuila Governor Miguel Riquelme said water levels were still too high. "Time is against us," he told families at the site, Mexican media reported.
