A flower road of 700m long has been set up in Phu My Hung urban area in District 7, HCM City to welcome the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet holiday). This work, with the theme "Spring reunion" was built within 10 days. This year the flower road is decorated with special features of the three regions – the north, the south and the central region - and the symbols of Tet in other Asian countries such as Japan, Korea, China... Young girls wearing Ao dai (Vietnamese traditional gown) take photos with the scene of Hoi An on the flower street. Yellow apricot branches symbolizing the Southern spring. There are also peach branches as the symbole of spring in the North. Golden buffalo, the symbol of the new year is displayed at the flower street. Nguyen Thi Hong, a visitor, said: "This year the flower street is as not crowd as it was in previous year, but it is quite beautiful. There are many spots to take nice pictures". Nguyen Hue flower street in District 1, one of the biggest annual draws in Vietnam’s southern metropolis to herald Lunar New Year, Tet, is nearly ready after half-a-month of hard work. The 720-meter flower street stretches from City Hall on Le Thanh Ton Street to Ton Duc Thang Street by Saigon River. A day before its opening, the pedestrian street is a patchwork of bright colors.Tet flower street was designed with the expectation of giving people and visitors the feeling of a city full of vitality, dynamism and prosperity, in harmony with its core cultural values. Right at the entrance gate to the flower street is a family of buffaloes. On their backs are fellow herdsmen with conical hats flying kites and playing flutes, symbolizing the relationship between farmers and their faithful animals. A total 60 buffalo mascots in various poses and sizes – calves to muscled adults – styled with traditional materials including rattan, bamboo, melaleuca bark and lotus leaves will populate the flower street. The buffaloes are almost always in pairs and part of herds, signifying family and a close knit community. In the middle of the flower street are statues of herdsmen riding on buffaloes, a cultural feature of the southern delta, bringing both modern colors and preserving the traditional features of the countryside. A scene depicts the harvest of bumper crops, recreating the peaceful countryside atmosphere with buffaloes grazing on rice fields. All along the flower street, the buffalo mascot appears in pairs and in herds. The famous Dong Ho painting, "Boy Sitting on a Buffalo and Playing the Flute" also appears on the flower street. Nguyen Hue Flower Street 2021’s opening ceremony cancelled due to pandemic
The flower show will open daily for public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting on February 10 (the 29th day of the last lunar month) The event’s organizer encourages people following the advice to not visit the flower street during peak hours and avoid gatherings as well as use two auxiliary gates to leave the flower show. The security force will put a cap on visitor numbers to limit the spread of virus. Visitors must comply with strict safety guidelines, including the Health Ministry’s 5K message, Khau trang (facemask) - Khu khuan (disinfection) - Khoang cach (distance) - Khong tu tap (no gathering) – Khai bao y te (health declaration). The city’s functional units will strictly impose fines on those who are venturing outside without masks. Cases that get health declarations, are self-isolating or have symptoms of cough, breathing problem, fever and pain will not be allowed to come to public areas, including Nguyen Hue Flower Street. People can call the hotline 19009095 and connect with nearest health units to seek help. Street food vendors along the flower street are permitted for takeaway only. The much awaited annual flower show is planned to be held from February 9 - February 15 (the 28th day of the last month – 4th day of the first month of the lunar calendar). The must-see site on Tet holidays is one of the events receiving the highest expectations of people during Tet holidays.
