US deals power up trade for balancing out deficit

· December 12, 2019 ·

Vietnam plans to purchase more products from the United States over the coming years (Photo: Le Toan) The plan of national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines (VNA) to buy 50 narrow-body aircraft with the total investment of over VND88 trillion ($3.83 billion) was a hot topic in the aviation industry last week when the Ministry of Transport (MoT) offered opinions on the proposal. “VNA should work on the detailed plan on annual network development so as to have a foundation to assess the feasibility with market demands, with aviation infrastructure, and with national network development policy,” the MoT said in a recent document sent to Hanoi Department of Planning and Investment. If the plan for the purchase of the A320/321 NEO and B737 MAX8/9/10 types is approved, VNA and its two units Jetstar Pacific and Vasco, which hold a market share of 51 per cent, will be strengthened with the addition of the Boeing brand to the Hanoi-based airline’s fleet. In October, the air … [Read more...] about US deals power up trade for balancing out deficit

ACV facing risks in airport venture

· December 12, 2019 ·

ACV facing risks in airport venture (illustration photo) The National Assembly (NA) has issued a resolution on a feasibility study for the first phase of the Long Thanh International Airport project, in which the government will offer no loan guarantee and the selected investor will instead have to manage the fund itself. The move is seen as a blow for interested lenders, often requiring such a government guarantee for initiatives of this magnitude. Vietnam has recently been working with Sweden on the possibility of mobilising a $1 billion loan from the Scandinavian country in order to invest in Long Thanh International, along with air traffic management. Like other groups, the Swedish Export Credit Corporation (SEK) is concerned about the possible risk without a government loan guarantee. Per Åkerlind, deputy CEO and head of Strategic Partnerships and Relations at SEK, said that the Ministry of Finance guarantee is the most important factor in reaching the $1 billion loan … [Read more...] about ACV facing risks in airport venture

Vietnamese carriers flying to US will face fierce competition: aviation officials

· December 12, 2019 ·

Vietnam is already negotiating with other countries and territories for assistance, said Dinh Viet Thang, director general of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) at a conference on Wednesday. Taiwan and South Korea have agreed to grant Vietnamese airlines fifth freedom traffic rights, which would allow them to carry passengers and goods from their territory to a third country. The CAAV has been recognized by the U.S. as achieving a Category 1 rating, which means it meets the International Civil Aviation Organization’s standards for personnel licensing, operations and airworthiness. Technical capability is still an issue for Vietnamese carriers since to operate flights to the U.S. they would need long-haul aircraft. They would need to meet the ETOPS-180 standard for operating twin-engine aircraft across oceans, which requires them to fly for 180 minutes on just one engine. In the country, only Vietnam Airlines has achieved this standard. Carriers seeking to fly to the … [Read more...] about Vietnamese carriers flying to US will face fierce competition: aviation officials
