CAAV proposes allowing Boeing B737 Max aircraft to transit in Vietnam

CAAV proposes allowing Boeing B737 Max aircraft to transit in Vietnam The Saigon Times A Boeing 737 Max aircraft gains altitude. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has proposed the Ministry of Transport allow the Boeing B737Max aircraft to transit in Vietnam – PHOTO: VNA HCMC – The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has proposed the Ministry of Transport allow the Boeing B737 Max aircraft to transit in Vietnam, following Boeing’s efforts in handling safety problems. The proposal was also based on the assessment of some international aviation agencies such as the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the Transport Canada Civil Aviation and the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC) and the operating index of its aircraft. The authority also said that it would continue to keep a close watch on and update information from other international aviation agencies from China, Australia and Russia, Thanh Nien Online reported. After three international aviation agencies permit the operation of the aircraft, CAAV will propose the ministry allow the aircraft to travel to/from Vietnam and grant certificates so that this type of aircraft can be imported into Vietnam. The work is set to be completed within six to 12 months. After the incidents involving the Boeing 737 Max aircraft of the Indonesian airline Lion Air in October 2018 and of Ethiopia’s Ethiopian Airlines in March last year, international investigative agencies found that the reason for the deadly crashes was related to technical flaws of the Boeing 737 Max plane model. Boeing has done away with the flaws. The B737 Max aircraft have resumed commercial flights in the U.S. airspace since December 28, 2020, while ANAC allowed the aircraft to fly again from December last year. Following suit, EASA lifted its flight ban on the Boeing 737 Max in January this year, along with other countries in the world. Meanwhile, some …

An effective remedy

Social blockade and isolation measures have seriously affected the economic and business activities of society and enterprises. According to the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the pandemic has caused 81 million workers across the Asia-Pacific region to lose their jobs, women and young people are "suffering" the most. The number of jobs in Asia-Pacific fell 4.2% compared to the pre-COVID 19 period. Due to the lower working hours, the average income of workers fell 9.9% in the first quarter of 2020, equivalent to a 3.4% decline in regional GDP. South Asia witnessed the highest rate of job loss, with nearly 50 million people, followed by East Asia (16 million people), Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, 14 million and 500,000, respectively. In Europe, many countries have seen record increases in unemployment. In the UK, in the three months to October 2020, the number of unemployed workers also increased to 370,000, with the unemployment rate increasing to 4.9%. Meanwhile, Latin America and the Caribbean have also seen a huge “setback”, the effects of which will reverberate for at least a decade, in the labour market. The region has been in its biggest unprecedented employment crisis since the publication of labour market reports in 1994. A sharp rise in unemployment in Latin America and the Caribbean, with an increase of 2.5 percentage points from five years ago, from 8.1% to 10.6%, means the number of people unable to find work has increased by 5.4 million, and the total number of unemployed is 30.1 million, the highest level in recent decades. The ILO also forecasts that the unemployment rate in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2021 will also reach 11.2%, up 0.6% compared to 2020. Employment is one of the “hottest” issues in the pandemic period because of the long-lasting crisis. Many countries must roll out job assistance packages, and adopt strategies to create more and better jobs when manufacturing operations are reactivated and the medical …

Flexibility necessary for airlines to prosper

Much of Vietnam Airlines’ fleet has been grounded due to the pandemic According to Le Hong Ha, deputy general director of Vietnam Airlines, the carrier has been fully aware of its responsibility to preserve and develop its products and services to both maintain the economic vein of the country and promote its golden lotus logo to bolster Vietnamese aviation and promote the nation’s culture and tourism across the world. As a bridge between regions and the world, Vietnam Airlines is committed to maximising its potentials to support domestic businesses in delivering their products to not only customers all over the country but also to numerous international friends. In 2020, Vietnam Airlines has been reaffirming its position as the top-quality airline of the nation and continuously maintained its 4-star services according to international standards. At the emergence of the pandemic, the carrier immediately applied distinct solutions to ensure safety for passengers, such as limiting reusable items, disinfecting aircraft, and providing sterile towels on flights. However, Vietnam Airlines has not been able to avoid business risks caused by the pandemic. After successfully reducing the spread of the disease, in the second quarter customers began to again pay for air services, while the company sought to generate crucial revenue from inland services. Hopes were high that the third quarter would be the time to make up for the initial losses of the year, but as the next wave of new infections hit, any expectations of recouping revenue had been diminished. As a result, half of the 217 aircraft flying under the five brands under Vietnam Airlines’ patronage were grounded as nobody wanted to fly anymore. Ticket prices decreased by more than 50 per cent compared to last year. Dang Ngoc Hoa, chairman of Vietnam Airlines, also noticed that “a lot of complications arose from the airline’s status as a state-owned enterprise and the state’s intervention in the aviation …
