On April 4 the 43-year-old donor was admitted to Dong Nai General Hospital in critical condition following a traffic accident in Long Thanh district. The man had suffered a traumatic brain injury, and doctors said death was imminent. Since he had expressed a desire to donate his organs and his family wanted to make his wish come true, doctors called the organ transplant coordination unit at Cho Ray, said Ngo Duc Tuan, Director of Dong Nai General Hospital. On April 5 a crew of doctors and nurses from Cho Ray went to Dong Nai Hospital to collect the organs and performed the transplants the same night. Vietnam performs over 750 stem cell transplants in ten years

The statistics were published at the 5th National Scientific Conference on Stem Cells, which opened in Hanoi on April 23 with the participation of around 300 health experts. Since the 1950s, the study and application of stem cells in medicine has been considered a breakthrough, creating new development opportunities for the medical sector. The advanced technology has been widely used to help cure several diseases that were impossible to treat before, including stem cell transplantation to treat blood diseases or support in the treatment of cancer and other musculoskeletal, nervous, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Germany looks to draw human resources from Vietnam

Illustrative image (Source: VNA) Berlin (VNA) – Germany will promote the attraction of human resources from Vietnam and other countries in Asia and South America due to a serious shortage of labour force in the coming time, according to a local official. The Vietnam News Agency’s correspondent in Berlin quoted German Minister for Economic Affairs Peter Altmaier as saying on December 13 that the shortage of skilled workers is one of the biggest challenges for Germany to stand firm in the context of global competition. To address this issue, Germany will have to attract human resources from countries outside the European Union (EU) to meet its labour demand. According to Altmaier, Germany is more likely to seek skilled workers from Asia and South America, specifically cooperating with economic unions to implement pilot projects with Vietnam, India and Brazil./. Former youth volunteers hold national congress in Hanoi

(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The fourth national congress of the Vietnam Ex-Youth Volunteers Association took place in Hanoi on December 14. Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, former Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan sent flowers to congratulate the congress. Vu Trong Kim was re-elected as Chairman of the association for the 2019-2024 tenure. He said more than 554,200 former youth volunteers are living across localities.  Over the past five years, the association has coordinated with relevant agencies to identify 944 fallen soldiers and 921 wounded ones, he added.
