In a report sent to shareholders ahead of the upcoming annual general meeting, the company said the revenue target is lower by 9% at VND20,000 billion. It had announced late February that the profit target was VND787 billion ($33.5 million). The report said the business plan for 2023 has been amended due to the "decline in the economy as well as consumer demand." It would improve its distribution channels and facilities and develop new product categories to improve market share, revenues and profits. A declining business outlook after two years of high growth is also the overall situation in the retail industry this year. Electronics store chain FPT Retail plans to seek shareholder approval to reduce its pre-tax profit by more than half to VND240 billion. In the last two years they had been VND554 billion (2021) and VND485 billion (2022). It cited difficulties faced by its consumer electronics chain FPT Shop, saying it could be more severely affected by adverse factors … [Read more...] about Digiworld cuts profit target by nearly half

Ho Chi Minh City reports modest economic growth in Q1
Ho Chi Minh City’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in the first quarter expanded a mere 0.7 percent year on year. The Ho Chi Minh city Institute for Development Studies (HIDS) on Wednesday cited statistics from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam as showing that the metropolis’ GRDP reached some VND360 trillion (US$15.3 billion) this quarter, inching up from the nearly VND247 trillion ($10.5 billion) in the same quarter of last year. The growth rate was higher than the 0.29 percent in the first quarter of 2022. However, experts were not surprised at the modest growth, saying that it had aligned with previously released forecasts. They also noted that growth in the second quarter of the year could be even lower. According to the HIDS, the city’s agro-forestry-fishery sector improved 2.06 percent, the service sector edged up 2.07 percent, and the industry and construction sector fell 3.6 percent, according to Thoi Bao Tai Chinh Viet Nam (Vietnam Financial Times). … [Read more...] about Ho Chi Minh City reports modest economic growth in Q1

It is also staying firm at the top of trending movies on Netflix Vietnam. Van wrote on her Facebook: "‘Furies’ has been in the top 10 of many countries and today it officially made it to the top five worldwide." In late 2022, Ngo Thanh Van, also known as Veronica Ngo, released "Furies" to domestic theaters. The big-budget and star-studded film was released on Christmas but didn’t do well as it only grossed VND25 billion ($1.05 million) at the box office. The unexpected flop of the action film was a big shock for Van and film critics. Releasing "Furies" on Netflix is considered Van’s attempt to save the movie, as she hopes it will reach a broader audience and restore her motivation to keep making movies. Her previous work "Hai Phuong" (Furie) was … [Read more...] about Vietnamese action drama among five most-watched films on Netflix this week
