A man and a woman organized a smash-and-grab robbery at a gold shop in Cam Ranh City, Khanh Hoa Province, located in south-central Vietnam, on Saturday afternoon, stealing some VND800 million (US$32,800) worth of jewelry pieces and cash. The break-in and heist happened at Kim Thoa Gold Shop on Hung Vuong Street in Ba Ngoi Ward in the city at 5:20 pm, said an official from the People’s Committee of the ward. The two rode a motorcycle to the shop, while it was crowded with buyers. The man used a gun to overpower a security guard in front of the store and then fired the gun into the air, frightening many people inside, while the masked woman wielded a hammer to smash jewelry display cases to grab the pieces. All apartments across Vietnam must be undergone fire safety inspection by mid-November: PM
Vietnam's national police are requested to conduct fire prevention inspection in types of high-density housing that are prone to fire and explosion. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered a general inspection of fire safety in all apartments, tenement buildings, high-density rental houses, private buildings and offices throughout Vietnam by November 15. The move follows a tragic fire at a tenement building in an alley on Khuong Ha Street in Hanoi's Thanh Xuan District on September 12.
