HCM City, Singapore enhance cooperation on human resources development

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai hosted a reception for Tan See Leng, Singapore’s Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry on August 11. He affirmed that the cooperation between HCM City and Singapore not only brings benefits to the city but also is an important factor contributing to the common development of Vietnam-Singapore relations. Along with potential fields such as smart city building, urban management and green economy, the city expects to strengthen collaboration and share experience in startup development, helping the city become an innovative start-up centre of the country and the region, the official said. He hoped that Singapore will share experience to improve the dialogue mechanism between the government and foreign businesses in a bid to remove difficulties in the investment process. Shares finish week higher on the back of steel, securities sectors

On the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange, the VN-Index rose 0.82 per cent to close at 1,262.33 points. The VN-Index had lost 0.54 per cent in the last two days. More than 541.7 million shares worth VND13 trillion (US$555.7 million) were traded on the southern exchange. The market's breadth was positive with 273 stocks climbing, of which eight hit ceiling prices, while 166 declined. The VN30-Index, which tracks the 30 biggest stocks on HoSE, jumped 0.68 per cent, to 1,280.96 points. Direction for disbursement tightened after mixed results

FBI seized top secret documents at Trump’s home; Espionage Act cited

NEW YORK - FBI agents who searched former president Donald Trump's Florida home this week removed 11 sets of classified documents including some marked as top secret, the US Justice Department said on Friday (Aug 12) while also disclosing that prosecutors had probable cause to believe Trump may have violated the Espionage Act. The bombshell disclosures were made in a search warrant and accompanying legal documents released four days after FBI agents carried out the search of Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach based on a warrant approved by a federal magistrate judge. The Espionage Act, one of three laws cited in the warrant application, dates to 1917 and makes it a crime to release information that could harm national security.
