Vietnam’s economic growth forecast at 7.5 percent in 2022: World Bank

(Photo: WB Vietnam) According to the latest economic update by World Bank (WB) for Vietnam, the country’s economy expanded 5.2 percent in Q4 of 2021, and respectively 5.1 percent and 7.7 percent in Q1 and Q2 of 2022. Inflation is projected to average 3.8 percent over the year. Carolyn Turk, WB Country Director for Vietnam, said that the bi-annual report “lays out a set of policy recommendations that could help mitigate the impact of these risks and make the economy more resilient going forward.” Titled “Taking Stock: Educate to Grow”, this edition underlines transforming the higher education system as the key to boosting the country’s productivity and achieving its development goals, in the context where the country re-emerges from the pandemic and into a challenging global environment. FBI hands over illegally-acquired cultural artefacts to Vietnam

(Photo: VNA) Washington (VNA) – A number of illegally-obtained cultural artefacts originating from Vietnam have been returned to the Southeast Asian nation by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation ( FBI ). The transfer took place at the Vietnamese Embassy in Washington last week in the presence of representatives from the US’s Department of State and Department of Homeland Security. According to FBI, the US agency took possession of more than 7,000 artefacts illegally acquired by an American citizen during an operation from 2013 – 2014. It is the largest single discovery of cultural property in FBI history. A year before his death, the man agreed to relinquish these items and wished to return them to their rightful owners. Myanmar issues new guidelines for tourist visa application
Illustrative image (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Myanmar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced new terms and conditions for tourist visa application given a low number of COVID-19 infections in the Southeast Asian country. Myanmar resumed its commercial flight services in April after more than two years of suspension due to the pandemic. Under the new guidelines, tourists are required to provide proof of full vaccinations , a colour photo that was taken within three months and a passport that is valid for six months to their visa application. As per the new terms and conditions, a visa applicant, who has children aged under 7 on the same passport, is required to put the child's name and birth date in the minor section of the application form. Only passport holders are eligible for the visa application, and all applicants should abide by Myanmar's laws and not interfere in the internal affairs of Myanmar, the ministry's statement said.
