World Bank’s IFC, partners to promote sustainable Vietnamese textile industry
IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is partnering with global apparel and footwear company VF Corp. and retailer Target Corp. to improve efficiency at their supplier factories in Vietnam. The manufacturing sustainability initiative will promote resource efficiency by systematically assessing performance improvement opportunities, conducting benchmarking studies, sharing best practice technology and raising awareness for broader uptake of new methodology, IFC announced on Tuesday. The first phase of the program features energy and water efficiency assessments at factories across Vietnam to help them reduce operating costs and improve productivity, according to IFC. The assessments will be conducted in about 30 factories over the next 12 months, with the effort intended to contribute to the country’s green growth and climate change targets. ACB bank starts JCB card acceptance in Vietnam
Vietnam's Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) and JCB International of Japanese leading credit card issuer JBC announced Oct. 7 that ACB has started opening its merchant network and recruiting new merchants for JCB cardmembers. An announcement issued in both Tokyo and Ho Chi Minh City said ACB, a major bank based in HCMC, targets to sign on about 4,000 JCB merchants by the end of January 2009. The two firms signed an agreement for this partnership in HCMC the same day. "In Vietnam, we believe this is an epoch-making event for JCB business, because Asia Commercial Bank is one of the most prominent and powerful major banks in terms of expanding JCB card acceptance in this country, and we have been eager to partner with ACB for years," said Mr. Kenji Seto, president and chief operating officer of JCB International.
