The website mentions the ancient town’s “cheap cost of living” as making it an ideal place for expats to stay in. According to the Canada-based travel site, Hoi An in the central province of Quang Nam is the best candidate for budget-conscious foreigners who want to settle down in Vietnam. An apartment close to the river in Hoi An will cost just $458 a month and while monthly food expenditure would be about $450. Hence, monthly living costs in Hoi An can be managed within $1,000, the site says. Cuenca in Ecuador topped the list, followed by Ambergris Caye in Belize, the Philippines’s Tagaytay and Ljubljana in Slovenia. Vietnam has been ranked 14th among the best countries for expats after InterNations drew on its 3.2 million members and surveyed over 18,000 expats from 178 nationalities living in 187 countries or territories. The best countries for expats were ranked by InterNations as part of its annual Expat Insider Survey. According to the latest report on atlasandboots.com, there are an estimated 57 million expatriates across the globe, with the term “expat” no longer limited to corporate employees relocating from a company’s headquarters. (VOVworld) - Vietnam is now ranked 11 out of the 57 best countries for expats, moving up 24 notches against last year’s rankings. The InterNations, an expat networking website, surveyed 14,000 people who had left their countries to work elsewhere else to find out where people are happiest. The survey accounted for different factors, such as ease of settling in, quality of life, and cost of living to decide on the rankings of countries. According to the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC)'s Expat Explorer 2016 report, good career opportunities in a stable economy have made Việt Nam one of the best host countries for expats. Expat Explorer is the longest running survey of expats with more than 26,000 respondents sharing views on life in 45 host countries. The report shows Việt Nam holds second place after Singapore among six ASEAN countries in the survey. It ranks 19th globally, jumping from 25th position last year. The top three reasons expats choose to move to Việt Nam are a new challenge (46 per cent), being sent by an employer (26 per cent) and to better their life quality (24 per cent).
