Hue preserves craft villages for socio-economic and tourism development
Hue was the capital of Vietnamese monarchy dynasties for more than 300 years (1636-1945), including 13 dynasties of the Nguyen family, the last feudal dynasty of Vietnam. Neu pole lowering ceremony (Photo: VNA) Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) - A ceremony was held at the Hue Imperial Relic Site in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue ’s Hue City on January 28 (the seventh day of the first lunar month) to take down the Neu pole (a tall bamboo pole with red garment strips used to ward off evil spirits during the lunar New Year ) and open the New Year seal . According to Director of the Hue Relics Preservation Centre Hoang Viet Trung, under the Nguyen Dynasty, the rituals marked the end of the Lunar New Year holiday and the start of work and normal activities. The Neu pole was erected on the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month, marking the beginning of Tet. It coincides with the day when the Kitchen Gods are believed to ride a carp to Heaven to report on events from the past year. Ex-director of north-central Vietnam airport jailed 15.5 years for taking bribes
Do Chi Thanh, former director of Phu Bai International Airport in Thua Thien-Hue Province, north-central Vietnam, on Sunday was sentenced to 15 years and six months behind bars for receiving bribes between 2017 and 2020. The Thua Thien Hue People’s Court also handed down the same prison term on Tran Xuan Long, former chief of the office and accountant of the airport. In addition, Le Van Loc, former deputy director of the airport, and Le Quoc Cuong, former head of the airport’s aviation security division, got respective jail terms of nine and 2.5 yeras. Phung Tuan Duong, another former deputy director of the airport, will be put on probation for three years. All were charged with taking bribes.
