Number of foreign visitors to Vietnam in February falls sharply

Foreign tourists mainly were technical experts and skilled workers who are allowed to enter Vietnam to work, and truck drivers transporting goods through international border gates. In the first two months, the country welcomed 28,700 foreign visitors, a year-on-year decrease of 99.1 percent. According to the report, HCMC saw a decline of 14.1 percent, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and Da Nang City decreased 15.9 and 16.1 percent, Hanoi and Hai Duong slid 7.6 and 7.8 percent compared with last year. Tourism revenue fell 62.1 percent over the same period last year to VND2,500 billion (US$108.6 million). The most severe drops were seen in Hanoi at 47.7 percent, Da Nang by 67.7 percent, HCMC by 69.2 percent, Thua Thien-Hue Province by 73.3 percent and Hai Duong Province by 89.4. The tourism industry has proposed many preferential policies to support travel firms and laborers that have been severely affected by the Covid-19. However, there was not much support and many businesses could not receive these preferential treatments. A further decline is expected in the coming months, said the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT). At the present, more than 500 enterprises that can not continue their operations have proposed for the withdrawal of the certificate of business registration. In addition, 90-95 percent of travel agencies have stopped operating as a result of the crisis. The tourism sector must spend 5-7 years to recover the workforce. A large number of laborers in the hospitality industry have to move for a new job. Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said that the tourism industry needs to develop key solutions and long-term plan until the next five years, such as putting the Support Fund into operation, restructuring the tourism industry, building tourist products and smart ecotourism system, implementing digital transformation in boosting Vietnamese tourism. He asked the VNAT to coordinate with Ninh Binh …

Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc chairs a meeting reviewing Đà Nẵng's development master plan in Hà Nội on Monday. — VNA/VNS Photo HÀ NỘI — Đà Nẵng plans to become a tourism and sea-based economic hub of Việt Nam by 2030 following its adjusted master plan with a vision to 2045. Under the plan, the central city is projected to become a part of the global supply chain network and a gateway to the East-West Economic Corridor, leaders of Đà Nẵng reported at a meeting with Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc in Hà Nội on Monday. The city also hopes to become a special urban area in its long-term vision of becoming an international city. Its population by 2030 is expected to reach 1.79 million and the urban construction area will be about 31,800ha, accounting for more than 32 per cent of its mainland area. PM Phúc applauded Đà Nẵng authorities’ efforts to work closely with ministries, agencies and to collect public opinions into making the master plan. The city should aim to become a special city of Việt Nam to bring Đà Nẵng to a higher level in terms of both quality and development scale, the PM said. The Government leader approved the plan to develop Đà Nẵng into a spearhead tourism city, a sea-based economic centre of Việt Nam, a gateway to the East-West Economic Corridor and a worth-living and safe city. Regarding waste treatment, PM Phúc said this was an important issue for Đà Nẵng – a city with one of the most beautiful beaches in the region. Trek to the top of Ma Thien Lanh mountain for a panoramic view of Hon Son Island . Hanoi (VNA) – Hon Son island, located between Hon Tre island and Nam Du archipelago, offshore the southern province of Kien Giang is a new destination for a summer retreat, with beautiful white sandy beaches and imposing mountains. Considered one of the most beautiful islands in Kien Giang, Hon Son is a new hidden gem for nature-loving tourists. With its pristine beauty, graceful beaches reflecting the vast ocean, Hon Son appears as a sparkling jewel surrounded by coconut groves, with a wild look. With limited infrastructure, islanders are highly sensitive to the environment, and use eco-friendly paper straws at coffee houses. The best time to visit Hon Son island is from May to December when weather conditions allow for calm seas and fresh, cheap seafood. To reach the island, visitors can fly to Rach Gia Airport from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, and then catch an hour-and-a-half speedboat ride from Rach Gia pier.
