(Cinet) – On Lunar New Year, a theatre production entitled "Tam Cam Musical" will debut at Ben Thanh Theatre from February 9 to 14. The Broadway-style performance has been produced by the Buffalo Theatre Club, featuring Tam Cam – one of the best-known Vietnamese fairy tales. It is considered to be the Vietnamese version of the Cinderella story. The story tells the life of an orphan girl named Tam, who is beautiful and hard working, and has a kind word for the people and animals in her life. But she lives with her stepmother and half-sister Cam, who always finds ways to harm her. After facing many challenges, Tam finally marries the Prince and lives happily. This is the first time the Tam Cam fairy tale will be performed as a musical theatre by artists from the Buffalo Theatre Club. (VOVworld) - 'Dù kê' is a style of musical theater created by Khmer people in southern Vietnam in the early 19th century, reflecting a cultural interaction of different ethnic communities inhabiting the Mekong River Delta region. It's a cultural heritage embodying the region's rich history. There have been many discussions about the origin of 'Dù kê'. It was basically created in the south of Vietnam in the early 19th century. It was influenced by Vietnamese 'Cải lương', or renovated theater, and Chinese singing. Songwriter and veteran artist Sơn Lương, Vice President of the Association of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups' Literature and Arts, is directing a study on 'Dù kê' in Sóc Trăng province. European and Vietnamese artists join hands in a music-theatre piece
PANO -"Through the Valley", an interdisciplinary music-theater piece, will premiere on January 14th, 2011 in the Hanoi Opera House. This large-scale production, a cooperation between the Goethe-Institute, the Vietnam National Opera & Ballet Theatre (VNOB) and the Vietnam National Academy of Music, is to mark the splendid conclusion of the "Germany in Vietnam 2010" program of festivities. Artists from Europe and Vietnam are currently rehearsing it in Hanoi. "Through the Valley" tells the story of the young knight Parzival, who breaks free of his mother’s arms and passes "through the valley" to discover the world.
