Pregnant woman dies after passenger boat overturns in Ho Chi Minh City
A pregnant woman was killed after a boat carrying 12 passengers capsized along a river in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday morning. A passenger boat was traveling along a section of Dong Nai River between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province at around 9:30 am when it hit a barge and overturned, according to preliminary information. Following Viet Nam is Malaysia with $101.9 million and Indonesia with $61.7 million. The proportion of wooden furniture imports from these three markets accounted for 22.9 per cent of the total value of wooden furniture imports into Australia. The Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade, quoted statistics from the General Department of Customs saying that the export value of wooden office furniture reached $28.4 million in December, a year-on-year decline of 28.6 per cent. At a conference in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province, on February 4, Hoan pointed out that the region boasts substantial potential and strengths in agricultural development, particularly in aquaculture and bird nest farming, noting the combination would bring about higher values for both sectors. He asked the region to rearrange some production areas and create connectivity between cooperatives, stressing that changes in the mindset must be done first. According to Nguyen Van Viet, Director of the ministry’s Planning Department, the region is facing such issues as climate change and natural disasters which are developing complicatedly. Durian prices surge as demand from China jumps
Khang, a durian trader in the southern city of Can Tho, said that he has not been able to buy enough quantity to sell to domestic buyers, as farmers are only willing to sell at high prices. "In Can Tho, one kilogram costs VND150,000 but there is little supply," said Khang. "This price level is uncommonly high." Hanh, a trader in Tien Giang who sells to Chinese buyers, said that she has been busy going to farms and paying high rates. She says she is even willing to pay commissions to those who introduce her to new farms. Local farmers say that durian prices in southern Tien Giang province range from VND120,000 to VND190,000, a triple increase year-on-year. Traders sell to Chinese buyers at even higher prices, from VND170,000 to VND290,000. They say that demand from China has surged several times from previous years.
