(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Two Vietnamese university professors were honoured with the Kovalevskaya Award 2021 for their outstanding achievements in applied sciences at a May 16 ceremony with Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan in attendance. The event was held by the Vietnam Women’s Union Central Committee in Hanoi. The awardees were Prof., Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, Vice Rector of the University of Science at the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM); and Prof., Dr. and Meritorious Teacher Nguyen Minh Thuy, a senior lecturer in food technology at the Faculty of Agriculture, the Can Tho University. Female scientists honoured at the Kovalevskaya award ceremony on Monday. — VNA/VNS Photo HÀ NỘI — Professors Nguyễn Thị Thanh Mai and Nguyễn Minh Thủy have won the 2021 Kovalevskaya awards for female Vietnamese scientists. The award ceremony was held on Monday. Thanh Mai, deputy principal of Việt Nam National University, HCM City, chaired and completed 14 scientific research projects at all levels, of which there were 10 ministerial-level projects and four provincial-level projects. She also published 135 scientific articles, of which 75 were published in international journals and 66 in national journals. One of Thanh Mai's notable works was a study titled "Building high standard extraction process from wormwood root and evaluating pharmacological effects in the direction of supportive use treatment of stomach ulcers”. The results of this study have oriented the production of herbal drugs to treat stomach ulcers. Vietnamese-French Fields Medalist receives Maurice Audin prize for math

A Vietnamese-French academic was presented with the Maurice Audin mathematics prize in Paris on Wednesday for his great contribution to the field, after a two-year wait. According to the French website Images des mathématiques (or Images of Math), Prof. Ngo Bao Chau, 46, a Vietnamese-French mathematician at the University of Chicago, was announced the winner of the 2016 edition of the Maurice Audin prize. Images des mathématiques is published by the French National Center for Scientific Research (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique – CNRS) and devoted to popularization in mathematics, with an aim to show the diversity of the science in an attractive way – words and pictures. Prof. Chau is best known for proving the fundamental lemma for automorphic forms proposed by American-Canadian mathematician Robert Langlands and Australian mathematician Diana Shelstad. SEA Games 31: Philippines triumphs in triathlon competitions

Fernando Tan Casares and Andrew Remonino of the Philippines won the gold and silver in the men’s individual category, clocking 1:56:57 and 1:59:16, respectively. Ronald Bintang Setiawan of Indonesia claimed the bronze medal. Lam Quang Nhat of host Vietnam, who was the gold medallist in the men’s 1,500m in swimming of SEA Games in 2013 and 2015 and switched to triathlon recently, finished first in the first three rounds but was overtaken in the fourth one. The programme aims to encourage ideas for aviation sustainable development , further reduce aviation’s impact on the environment and spur breakthrough ideas that can be shared across the industry. PM Pham Minh Chinh visited New York Stock Exchange
PM Chinh expressed his delight at visiting the NYSE, the largest stock exchange in the world in terms of market capitalisation, and rang the iconic Closing Bell. Some of the Vietnamese conglomerates are considering offering their shares on foreign exchanges, particularly the NYSE, in order to scale up their financial soundness. In April, Vingroup’s automobile arm VinFast submitted its application for an initial public offering to the US Securities Exchange Commission. PM Chinh also attended the awarding ceremony between Vietnam and the US to further strengthen bilateral relations in various fields, including finance, banking, and investment funds.
