Airbus awards student with green thumb By Mong Binh in HCMC Airbus has picked the winner of a tree planting competition it held at Doan Thi Diem Primary School in Hanoi. The European aircraft manufacturer launched the contest for the school’s 300 pupils three months ago to support the United Nations International Day for Biodiversity. Over the weekend, Airbus named grade fiver, Bui Ha Thuy Linh, as the winner for growing the tallest potplant during summer. The winner received a trip for her entire family to Sapa, which is one of Vietnam’s best preserved ecological areas. “This was really fun,” Linh said in a statement. “The pots were shaped like planes, which was really cool, and we were given a class on how to raise plants and taught about the importance of making our country and our world more green.” Airbus also delivered 10 consolation prizes including notebooks and books about nature. Vietnam awards student for cancer run
Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union awarded a certificate of merit to Le Viet Hong on Sunday after the student completed his 47-day “cancer-run” from HCMC to Hanoi. Le Viet Hong, a junior at the HCMC-based International University, ended his marathon – which aimed to raise money for cancer patients and treatment – Saturday at Hanoi’s Lenin theme park. Along the way, Hong inspired several sponsors to agree to donate money to his cause. Hong’s school donated VND20 million (US$1,230) to him, but the student has yet to reveal his exact plans for the money. A delegation from his school arrived in the capital to congratulate him on his achievement. Around 100 students from the Hanoi National University also received Hong and accompanied him on a visit to Uncle Ho’s Mausoleum.
