Mini wind kit, bird strike prevention designed for wind power generator By Takeaki Uchida Takeaki Uchida, CEO of ICM COMMUNICATIONS CO., LTD According to IHS Markit, Vietnam is among the top three nations with the fastest growth of shift to renewable energy in the Asia Pacific after Australia and Japan. I have traveled to several SEA countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, and found that Vietnam holds high potential for developing renewable energy such as solar, wind, biomass and wave. So far, the proportion of solar power investment in Vietnam is so big. Meanwhile, wind power projects and capacity are not significant. For solar power, in developing countries like Vietnam, investors are not keen on the ESS system that stores electricity for night use. Instead, the Government of Vietnam encourages investors by offering a nice purchase price of electricity, and grid connection from household and factories who install the solar system (without ESS system). For the solar system, you can install for household and factory use, and you can install mega farms and connect to the grid to sell electricity to EVN. But for wind power, you can only install wind farms to sell electricity to EVN. The good point of wind power is that it generates power 24/7, unlike solar. However, the popular wind turbine in the world is quite big (more than 2 megawatts). There is almost no mini wind turbine for household and factory use. During my business life, I have invented (with registered patents in Japan) a wind power system called “mini wind power generator,” which has a capacity of a few hundred kilowatts to less than a megawatt. I also invented the system that prevents bird strikes (registered patent in Japan). Indeed, at wind farms, bird-strikes create severe damages to the whole system. Each morning before work at a Singapore construction site, Gunasekar Udayakumar, 41, gets his vital signs checked, without going to a clinic, or even seeing a nurse. All he needs is his smartphone, which in just 45 seconds can tell him his heart rate, oxygen levels and even his stress levels. It can also tell him if he should see a doctor. The application, developed by Singapore startup Nervotec, is what construction firm Kajima considers its first line of defence against another outbreak of the coronavirus in Singapore. The city-state has kept a tight lid on its infections and wants to avoid a repeat of last year, when a series of clusters emerged in migrant worker dormitories. Kajima staff at various sites have used the application since December as part of a government-initiated programme that provides companies with trial-stage technology to help them adjust to the new pandemic-era norms. It offers a diagnosis of the user’s health condition, relying solely on a smartphone camera that can measure heart rate by picking up changes in the reflectivity of light on the user’s skin between heart beats according to blood flow underneath. The proposal was made at a meeting between a delegation from Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee led by vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Ngo Minh Chau and Cu Chi District authorities on March 3. Other proposals at the meeting include the adjustment for 10 subdivisions along the Saigon River from eco agriculture areas into eco-urban areas, a target rate of population growth to 200,000 people in the district, an increase in the inter-district construction density to 35-40 percent with a goal of attracting investment. At the meeting, the People’s Committee of Cu Chi District informed that the district completed 15 out of 20 socio-economic targets in 2020. This year, Cu Chi strives to adopt 20 targets, including four economic targets, four urban environmental targets and 13 social ones. In order to well implement the socio-economic development plan in 2021, the People’s Committee of Cu Chi District hoped that the Municipal People's Committee and relevant departments, agencies to soon issue land use plan for the period 2021-2030, thereby the district will carry out land use plans in the next ten years.
