Hanoi (VNA) – ASEAN and Canada agreed to soon elevate their dialogue relationship to a Strategic Partnership during the ASEAN-Canada Ministerial Meeting held online on September 10 as part of the 53rd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM-53). The foreign ministers highly valued Canada's active participation in ASEAN-established and -led mechanisms, especially the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF). Countries acknowledged Canada's wish to participate more deeply in other ASEAN-led mechanisms such as the East Asia Summit (EAS) and the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM ). ASEAN also appreciated Canada's timely support for the region’s fight against COVID-19, with the provision of medical protective equipment worth 4.5 million CAD. Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam has taken advantage of the opportunity as the ASEAN Chair to become a bridge promoting intra-ASEAN connection as well as links between the bloc with its dialogue partners, a Canadian expert has said. HCM City (VNA) - The COVID-19 pandemic is still influencing Vietnam’s fisheries exports, with export value down 10 percent in June to just 626 million USD following a sharp decline in May of 16 percent, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP). Vietnam earned over 3.5 billion USD from exporting fisheries products in the first half of 2020, down 10 percent against the same period last year. In the January-June period, the sharpest fall was seen in the export of tra fish, at 31 percent, followed by tuna at 20 percent. Only shrimp exports enjoyed a rise, of just 3 percent. According to VASEP, COVID-19 has caused a 35-50 percent slump in global seafood demand, while businesses suffered from material shortages and difficulties in transportation and payments, leading to financial troubles.
