Asian markets squeezed out gains Tuesday, giving investors some relief from a recent sell-off fuelled by worries that US interest rates will go higher than feared following last week's blockbuster jobs report. January's rally has come to a halt this month as investors contemplate an extended period of high borrowing costs aimed at bringing down inflation from multi-decade highs. While there are signs that price rises are slowing, and the Federal Reserve acknowledged progress in its battle last week, the employment data Friday was seen as a body blow for many. The reading, which showed more than half a million new posts created in January, led to speculation the Fed could have to unveil even more rate hikes this year, while any chance of a cut before 2024 all but evaporated. Focus is now on a planned speech later in the day by central bank boss Jerome Powell, with observers looking for any change from his less hawkish comments after last week's policy decision. Vn-Index set for steady growth in 2023
The Government’s active stance to address macro challenges would fuel the stock market development in 2023. The benchmark Vn-Index is forecast to expand by 15% at the end of 2023 to hit 1,160 following a turbulent year for the stock market, according to SSI Securities Corporation (SSI). Investor at a securities company in Hanoi. Photo: Pham Hung The Vn-Index from its peak of 1,530 in early 2022 plummeted to a low of 874 in mid-November, a downturn which experts attributed to major events, such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, arrests of business executives for market manipulation, and the Government’s tightening credit into high-risk fields. As of late 2022, however, the market’s price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio was considered quite attractive with an estimated 9.2x, 35% lower than the average rate of 14.16x during the 2009-2022 period. SSI’s latest report also pointed out another positive factor in the expectation of a more stable value of the Vietnamese Dong … [Read more...] about Vn-Index set for steady growth in 2023

Exploring the aspects of global gold performance
Dat Tong, Senior market strategist, Exness With financial turmoil on the rise around the world, many traders are looking to gold as a safe-haven asset. Gold has been on the rise lately, approaching its all-time high in August 2020 (see chart). The 2009 recession boosted gold trading volume and by 2011, XAUUSD reached a high level at $1,823. As world economies recovered, fiat currencies regained strength and gold prices fell throughout 2013-2014. The downtrend bottomed out at $1,061 in 2015, before starting to ascend. Gold prices rebounded in 2019 as the pandemic ravaged countries, reaching $1,974. Is gold still a safe-haven asset? During difficult economic times, gold price tends to increase. This makes gold a good investment for those looking to protect their assets in uncertain times. Gold can act as a hedge against inflation. When inflation increases, XAU usually increases as well. Scarcity is in gold’s nature, which is another reason why experts consider gold a good … [Read more...] about Exploring the aspects of global gold performance
Varying factors to determine the fate of real estate
According to chairman of the Vietnam Real Estate Brokers Association Nguyen Van Dinh, Vietnam’s real estate market is not repeating the crisis cycle which occurred in 2012. Varying factors to determine the fate of real estate, photo baodautu.vn “Currently, urban development is high and infrastructure investment is taking place strongly, along with the rocketing increase demand for housing. So the demand for investment in real estate is rather high. These are the factors that create a great motivation for the market’s ability to recover,” Dinh told VIR. Banking and finance expert Can Van Luc added that the market will be revived by the end of the year. “When banks have new credit room, real estate will see more transactions from homebuyers. Real demand is expected to be a bright spot during the year,” Luc said at a forum on forecasting the real estate market organised by the Vietnam Real Estate Association in Hanoi on January 3. Regulatory framework needed to boost Vietnam’s crypto scene
Dr. Pham Nguyen Anh Huy - Founder, RMIT FinTech-Crypto Hub Many crypto projects, especially GameFi, move-to-earn, the metaverse, and Web3, were launched in such an environment which helped boost national innovation and drive the digital economy. However, the lack of a regulatory framework has led to several issues, such as the lack of investor protection if they get scammed; the difficulty of tracing crypto-related fraudulent and criminal activities such as money laundering; a volatile business environment; and the inability of the tax authority to collect taxes from crypto-related activities. Eventually, these issues may dampen market confidence and make Vietnam less attractive, especially when the hype is over. Given the get-rich-quick mindset of most Vietnamese crypto investors coupled with the lack of a regulatory framework, it is not surprising that Vietnam is one of the most active crypto trading hubs in the world, ranking second in peer-to-peer exchange trade volume … [Read more...] about Regulatory framework needed to boost Vietnam’s crypto scene
Sustainable trade and investment key to Asia and Pacific’s green future
Greener trade and investment is crucial to tackling climate change in Asia and the Pacific and will require governments in the region to work together more closely, according to a new report by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). While trade and investment have fueled remarkable economic growth in Asia in recent decades, it has also led to large increases in carbon dioxide emissions in the region—which is more vulnerable to the effects of climate change than any other. Reversing this trend will require measures such as promoting trade in environmental goods and services, nurturing green businesses, developing carbon pricing mechanisms, and strengthening regional cooperation through trade and investment agreements, according to the Asian Economic Integration Report (AEIR) 2023, released by ADB today. “Asia and the Pacific’s remarkable growth has lifted millions of people out of poverty, but this has come at an environmental cost,” said ADB Chief Economist Albert Park. “The region now … [Read more...] about Sustainable trade and investment key to Asia and Pacific’s green future
