Memory Game art hits City (25-09-2008) HCM CITY — Childhood, love and war are the subjects of a new exhibition of canvas art at the HCM City Fine Arts Museum. The event, titled Memory Game includes 91 oil paintings by Trinh Thanh Tung, a war veteran who has been painting for 50 years. In the exhibition, Tung introduces his experimentations with various genres, including abstract, demi-surrealism and realism. Tung's works in realism, including Sen (Lotus), Gai Xuan (Young Girl) and Trang Non (New Moon), feature the beauty of people and the natural world. Other works like Nguoi Chim (Birdwoman) and Vu Khuc Thanh Binh (Dance of Peace) lay bare people's views and subconscious. These demi-surrealist paintings are memorable for their fantastical images and warm colours like purplish red. Tung, 66, says his art is very complex. "I love painting when I live in a soaring state of mind because I can imagine my own world," said the self-taught artist. Exhibition of wartime art opens in Hanoi
An exhibition entitled “Artworks in wartime”, showing 46 graphic works by the famous Spanish painter Francisco de Goya and 37 wood and bronze carvings by Vietnamese painters, opened in Hanoi on Oct. 3. The exhibition highlights Goya’s valuable graphic works from a collection entitled “Disasters of war, 1810-1820”, presented to the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum by Dr. Hans Guggeenhem, a German-American collector. 30 nations participate into 4th International Material Arts Festival
(Cinet) - The 4th International Material Arts Festival 2012 will take place on August 01-04 in Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province, attracting 30 nations and territories. Exhibition on Southern ancient fine arts in HCMC
An exhibition on Southern ancient fine arts is being held at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum to mark Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23). More than 200 artifacts such as objects of worship, sculptures and photographs of old architecture are on display at the exhibition. The exhibition shows the diversified cultures of the Southern regions, the reclaiming process of land for cultivation and the transfer of land deeds between Viet, Hoa, Cham and Khmer ethnic groups. During that period, folk fine arts played an important role in the spiritual and cultural life of the people as well as influenced habits, customs, festivals, rituals, religious beliefs, arts and literature. The exhibition will run until March 23, 2012. On this occasion, Southern Women's Museum in Ho Chi Minh City also introduced to visitors the traditional Ao dai along with its history and adaptation of it in daily life.
