The maximum short-term lending rate for borrowers in some sectors will be reduced, photo Le Toan The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) last week took bold steps to soften the regulatory interest rates for the first time in two years, in a bid to support the capital-thirsty local business community. The central bank issued two decisions on reducing key interest rates by 0.5 to 1 per cent, which took effect on March 15. Under Decision No.313/QD-NHNN, the rediscount interest rate will be revised down from 4.5 per cent per year to 3.5 per cent. Overnight lending rates in interbank electronic payments and loans to cover capital shortfalls in clearing payments of the SBV for credit institutions will be dropped from 7 per cent per year to 6 per cent. The Marburg virus causes an acute infectious disease, which naturally resides in fruit-eating bats (Rousettus aegyptiacus). The disease is transmitted from animals (bats, primates) to humans, or from person to person through direct contact with bodily fluids, or with environments/objects contaminated by the bodily fluids of a person infected or deceased from the Marburg virus. The incubation period of the disease ranges from 2 to 21 days. Patients initially show signs of high fever, headache, discomfort, followed by diarrhea, abdominal pain, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and bleeding. The ministry’s Centre of Information and Education for Health on March 23 reported that the country has confirmed 670 dengue fever cases so far this year. Vientiane reported the highest number with 116. Schoolboy killed in homemade firecracker explosion in Vietnam’s Central Highlands
An explosion linked to a self-made firecracker has left one schoolboy dead and another severely injured in Vietnam’s Central Highlands region. Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City confirmed on Saturday morning that it had received N.D.N., a 14-year-old patient with multiple injuries caused by a firecracker explosion from the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak. His eyes were badly injured, along with many wounds on his neck, face, and limbs. The doctors said the cornea in his left eye was completely injured while the eyelids in the right eye were torn off. IMF says risks to financial stability have increased, calls for vigilance
International Monetary Fund chief Kristalina Georgieva said on Sunday that risks to financial stability have increased and called for continued vigilance although actions by advanced economies have calmed market stress. The IMF managing director reiterated her view that 2023 would be another challenging year, with global growth slowing to below 3% due to scarring from the pandemic, the war in Ukraine and monetary tightening. Even with a better outlook for 2024, global growth will remain well below its historic average of 3.8% and the overall outlook remained weak, she said at the China Development Forum. The IMF, which has predicted global growth of 2.9% this year, is slated to release new forecasts next month.
