Police in Cau Giay District in Hanoi on Friday announced the conclusion of an investigation into the death of a first-grader who was locked inside a school bus for nine hours in early August, with prosecution proposed for three suspects. The police suggested the district People’s Procuracy launch prosecution against Nguyen Bich Quy, 55, and Doan Quy Phien, 53, for committing “involuntary manslaughter” and Nguyen Thi Thuy, 29, for “neglecting responsibility, causing serious consequences." The result of the police investigation shows that Quy and Phien, who were the supervisor and driver, respectively, of a school bus contracted by the Gateway School in Cau Giay District to transport its students, started picking up 13 Gateway students on a 16-seater van at 6:00 am on August 6. Vietnam wins 3 gold medals at int’l math Olympiad
The Vietnamese team of six high school students won three gold medals, two silvers and a bronze at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held in Cape Town, South Africa from July 3 to 13. The news was announced on Saturday by the exam department under the Ministry of Education and Training. Three gold medalists include Tran Hong Quan from Thai Binh High School in northern Thai Binh Province, Pham Tuan Huy from the special high school math training class of the Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City, and Nguyen The Hoan from the special high school math training class of the Vietnam National University - Hanoi. The People's Council in Hai Phong City has approved a resolution to offer free education for children from pre-school to high school level. Hai Phong People Council approves free education plan Hai Phong City People's Council has approved of the resolution during a recent session. The city will start exempting school tuition fees for pupils from primary to secondary school from 2020-2021 school year and for high school students from 2021-2022 academic year. Free education is given to children at nursery schools set up or licensed by Hai Phong City authorities, as well as secondary or high school students that have permanent residence, temporary registration or police's confirmation about their lives in Hai Phong. Nursery children will be given financial support for 12 months a year and nine months a year for secondary, high school and further education. Since a 1987 UNESCO resolution calling for member states to commemorate the centenary of the birth of late President Ho Chi Minh, many countries have dedicated statues, museums, parks and streets in honor of Vietnam’s 'great man of culture.' The resolution was promulgated at the 24th session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris in 1987, three years before the centenary of the late president’s birth. Ho Chi Minh, also known as Nguyen Sinh Cung, Nguyen Tat Thanh, and Nguyen Ai Quoc, was born in 1890 in north-central Vietnam’s Nghe An Province, then part of French Indochina. He passed away in 1969.
